KenGen
Engineering Trainee - May 2024 to July 2024 -
My role as an engineering trainee at KenGen Ngong’ Wind Farm involved system maintenance and troubleshooting if wind turbine systems. Under the mechanical engineering department, I received training and experience in turbine component maintenance (scheduled maintenance in this case annual). Among the specific processes was hydraulic system troubleshooting and diagnosis, replacement of proportional valves, examination of brake calipers for wear, yaw gear and calipers greasing, gearbox maintenance, hub greasing, motor replacements, resistance testing of electrical components, crane operation, emergency response, occupational safety compliance, monitoring of turbine systems using SCADA and basic training in control panel and HMI operation for system isolation as a primary safety measure during system maintenance
Education
-
B.Eng
Technical University of KenyaJuly 2019 to Nov 2024 -
Gained theoretical and practical skills in computer aided design, simulation and prototyping, robotics and automation, programming (Arduino, CNC, Python, C++), 3D printing, design process, project pricing etc.
As part of a team, I took part in the design, modelling, prototyping and programming of a SCARA robot, where I gained hands-on skills in Ultimaker Cura, SolidWorks, Arduino and 3D printing.
As part of my academic requirements, I took part in a machining project, in which I got to hone my skills in CNC programming, G-code, simulation and CNC machining, particularly CNC milling and lathe machining. Among the processes used in the fabrication of a steel pipe fixture was turning, internal and external threading, knurling, grooving, boring and chamfering.
