With this programme we want to provide students around the globe the opportunity to work and experiment on innovative ideas in a safe and supportive environment.

Together with some of the most innovative thinkers in the industry and other #IP2TIS interns, you will contribute to solving real challenges around Science, Technology, Society and main theme Sustainability that have the potential to shape the future.

The Position

Our Global Internship Programme in Innovation & Sustainability #IP2TIS offers a unique opportunity for passionate individuals to gain hands-on experience in the pharmaceutical industry while making a positive impact on the world. As a sustainability and innovation intern, you will work on cutting-edge projects that align with our commitment to environmental responsibility, social impact, and forward-thinking solutions.

To support the delivery of strategic projects within the Strategic Innovation and Planning team by providing research support and advanced analysis of markets, trends, customer information and other data sources that can inform and enrich team knowledge and project outputs. Support projects to ensure that project standards are achieved and that information generated throughout projects is properly stored and made available for future projects.

In Tanzania, the Kilimanjaro Christian Medical Centre (KCMC) is establishing a Centre of Excellence which will be one of the largest laboratories in Tanzania. Roche is supporting this project by  providing subject matter experts through the Roche HealthCare Consultancy Team.  The scope of support is extensive including:

  • The harmonisation of services and processes within the three institutions of KCMC.
  • Enhancing talent and the capacity of phlebotomists, health and clinical workers, lab technicians, technical staff as well as nurses.
  • Lab redesign and renovation activities to support the lab harmonisation and to ensure the implementation of efficient processes.

The holistic approach is organised into work packages (WP).  WP1 – Harmonisation – aligning and harmonising existing siloed laboratory services, (research, teaching and public facing laboratory services) from an operations and change management perspective.  WP2 – Training and technical capacity building – training the users of platforms.  WP3 – Laboratory redesign and renovation – supporting the technical and workflow design of the new CoE and the migration and transition process to the new CoE.   A substantial part of this is being achieved through workshops in close cooperation with University of Marburg (Germany (ILM).

This internship position is located in Nairobi, Kenya.

Key Responsibilities

  • To capture and document the innovation being created beyond lessons learned to models and methodologies that can be replicated and eventually scaled with an emphasis on growing access through a business lens that emphasises a patient first approach to enterprise level service provision that can be scaled and replicated in other markets across the African continent, at a minimum.
  • Conduct end to end research as required to support the project deliverables by translating research into meaningful insights for the team. Create and maintain a database of data sources which can be used for future projects/initiatives. Analysing data sets and conducting primary research (where applicable)
  • To forge relationships within the Strategic planning team through ongoing engagement. To work closely with the Strategic Consultancy on the sustainability and financial models for KCMC to ensure the COE is sustainable.

Who You Are

The applicants have completed their Bachelor’s or postgraduate studies at a university, preferably in the field of business, finance and/or commercial  appropriate study fields within the last 12 months and are interested in applying your knowledge in a modern working environment as part of an internship of at least 3 months and gaining experience with public-private-partnerships in global health, business modesl and sustainability.

Who we are looking for:

Passionate, motivated and forward-thinking Bachelor, Master and MBA students, either enrolled at a university/business school or those in a gap year before starting a PhD.

Start Date:

Between the 1st and 16th of July.

Duration of the programme:

3 months. During these 3 months we offer a unique curriculum and firsthand insights into our fascinating world of science, technology, and sustainability.
