USAID AMPATH Uzima is a Kenya Health Partnership for Quality Services (KHPQS) funded by USAID and Managed by Moi Teaching & Referral Hospital, working in partnership with the Departments of Health in Uasin Gishu, Trans Nzoia, Elgeyo Marakwet and West Pokot Counties.

The Academic Model Providing Access to Health Care (AMPATH) is a project under the auspices of Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital (MTRH), Moi University and a Consortium of North American Universities led by Indiana University whose aim is to provide sustainable efforts in access to Health Care, Research, and Training.

Applications are invited from suitably qualified candidates for the following vacant position in the USAID AMPATH Uzima Program.


Duties & Responsibilities;

Reporting to the Director, Information Communication Technology& Software Development through Manager Programmer, the successful candidate will among others be responsible for the following: –

  • Assist the Programmers in Working with the Health Informatics groups at AMPATH to design, develop and modify health applications.
  • Assist to thrive in a growing digital landscape implementing the next-generation digital health solutions used within and outside Kenya.
  • Assist software engineers to design and customize features that work with/on java-based OpenMRS ( software.
  • Assist the Programmers with external EMR implementing partners in the OpenMRS community, to work on new solutions such as the OpenMRS 3.0.
  • Assist the Programmers to Micro-Frontends and single- page applications.
  • Assist the Programmers create a health data analytics framework using modern data engineering tools such as MySQL, Apache Spark, Airflow and ELK Stack.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assist the Programmers in development of the AMRS POC digital health solution and OpenMRS 3.0 products.
  • Work with the Programmers Health Informatics groups (Clinical teams, M&E team, Implementation, Product Management & Quality Assurance teams) to understand digital health opportunities and gaps, and come up with solutions.
  • Assist Conduct R&D (Investigating on emerging technology to solve current problems) to explore possible technical solutions.
  • Assist the Programmers Collaborate in Architecting, designing and implementing integrations with other digital health systems in the Labs, Pharmacies, and Reporting Platforms etc.
  • Assist Support uptime of existing systems to ensure high availability.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in IT/ Computer Science or related field;
  • Should be fresh graduate but not more than three (3) years from date of graduation;
  • Should have Programming knowledge in Java Script, Java, Python, NET;
  • Ability to work independently without supervision;
  • Meet requirements of Chapter 6 of the Constitution of Kenya at the point of reporting.

Terms of Employment

The successful candidate will be employed on Six (6) Months contract terms subject to a two (2) Months’ Probation with a stipend. Thereafter for those who do so well may be evaluated for absorption on a contract which can be extended to 30th September, 2026 subject to availability of funds, satisfactory performance and need for the service.
