About Ol Pejeta Conservancy:

Ol Pejeta Conservancy, Laikipia, Kenya, was established in 2004, transforming a 90,000 – acre cattle ranch into a flagship wildlife conservancy. It is home to the largest population of the Critically Endangered eastern black rhino, >40 southern white rhinos and the world’s last two northern white rhinos. It is the only place in Kenya to see chimpanzees in a sanctuary established to rehabilitate animals rescued from the black market. It has some of the highest predator densities in Kenya, and still manages a very successful livestock programme. Ol Pejeta also supports the people living around its borders, to ensure wildlife conservation translates to better education, healthcare and infrastructure and livelihoods to strengthen wildlife stewardship and conservation outside the conservancy

Position: Tourism Guide.
Type: Permanent.
Reports to: Tourism Field Officer.
Department: Tourism.
Location: Kenya.
Closing Date: Monday, 8th April 2024.

Position Overview

This position will be reporting to the Tourism Field Officer and working together with the Tourism Department. He or She will introduce visitors to Ol Pejeta Conservancy’s unique attractions, and to guide them in a safe and knowledgeable manor, providing them with information focusing on conservation messaging creating a world-class integrated Ol Pejeta visitor experience and year-round local and international tourism destination.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Visitor Experience and Support:

  • Provide guiding services to visitors, including welcoming, handling, and escorting clients.
  • Support bush walks and bird walks as a tracker.
  • Offer additional information about activities available at Ol Pejeta Conservancy and local insights.

2. Facility Maintenance and Hygiene:

  • Empty dustbins regularly and dispose of waste according to standards.
  • Maintain cleanliness and hygiene in public areas.

3. Professionalism and Safety:

  • Maintain discipline, organization, and proper attire.
  • Uphold confidentiality standards.
  • Ensure health and safety procedures are followed, reporting any issues to the Tourism Office and assisting in emergencies.

4. Equipment and Resource Management:

  • Utilize facilities, tools, and equipment efficiently, reporting any problems to the Tourism Field Officer.

5. Communication and Relationship Management:

  • Attend departmental meetings.
  • Maintain good relations with customers, partners, and suppliers.

6. Miscellaneous Duties:

  • Fulfill any other duties as reasonably requested by supervisors.

Qualifications and skills:

  • Minimum ‘O’ levels education
  • Experience: Minimum of 2 years of relevant experience working as a tourism guide
  • Key skills and qualities: Good communicator, confident, presentable and a good team player.
  • Good knowledge in written and spoken English and Kiswahili.
