We are seeking a highly motivated professional to fill the following position:

Library Assistant Interns– Vacancy Codes (Lib Asst 24-1) (2 Positions)

This position will be reporting to the User Services Librarian/Technical Services Librarian in the Library Department.

Job Purpose:

This position holders will undertake responsibilities encompassing various facets of library services, ensuring their seamless execution and support.

Main Responsibilities:

  1. Provide circulation desk services.
  2. Sort books, publications, and other items according to established procedures and return them to shelves, files, or other designated storage areas.
  3. Instruct patrons how to access and use library resources.
  4. Locate library materials for patrons, including books, periodicals, and articles.
  5. Perform user education and orientation for library users, including preparing library guides and promotional materials and assisting patrons in locating library materials.
  6. Perform collection maintenance activities including inventory, weeding and minor repairs of damaged information materials.
  7. Sort and shelve information materials according to the classification scheme in use to ensure ease of retrieval by users, including shelve reading.
  8. Participate in the processing of new library materials as assigned.
  9. Undertake any other duty as may be required.

Minimum Academic Qualifications and Experience:

  1. A Bachelor’s degree or a diploma in Library Science or related field.
  2. Must be conversant with library management systems (preferably KOHA).
  3. Must be computer literate and proficient in Microsoft Office Tools.
  4. Must be conversant with LC Classification system.

Skills and Abilities

  1. Interpersonal and exemplary communication skills.
  2. Must be proactive, self-driven and goal oriented.
  3. Ability to work under minimum supervision.
  4. Must be computer literate.
