Vacancy Description
Reports to: M&E Coordinator

JOB PURPOSE:
Monitoring and Evaluation Officer is responsible for observing and ensuring high-quality and timely inputs, and for ensuring that ELRF maintains its strategic vision by ensuring high survivability for the planted trees.

KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILLITIES
- Monitor planted trees to ensure at least 90% survivability;
- Monitor daily trees planted and share progress reports;
- Collects data on a regular basis to measure achievement against the planted trees;
- Monitors the input of data into the ELRF system and conducts data quality checks;
- Supports programme progress reporting, mid-term review and final evaluation;
- Identifies lessons learned and develops case studies to capture qualitative outputs of programmes, projects, and initiatives.
- Provides advice to the management on improving programme performance using M&E findings;
- Assists with M&E training initiatives to strengthen capabilities within ELRF.;
- Performs field visits to ensure the quality and accuracy of collected or reported data where necessary;
- Prepares progress reports on the on – going project;
- Design and implement baseline environmental and socio-economic impact report templates for each planting site, managing for cultural sensitivities and appropriateness;
- Design and develop training tools necessary to mobilize field team to gather on-the ground socioeconomic and environmental data relating to ELRF’s results and reports;
- Regular monitoring the equipment needs for each planting site to ensure they are consistently prepared for field analysis;
- Support analysis on new planting sites to inform issues and risk exposure reports;
- Visit planting sites on rotation to help ensure project is on track;
- Maintain and regularly update all data sets, GIS mapping software and communication tracking systems to ensure deliverables and other important information is tracked and available.
- Monitor ELRF activities and outputs on a regular basis and assist the management team in preparing project progress reports.
- Assist forestry department with tracking the effectiveness of failures forest restoration planting

- Provide key information and reports to the M&E Coordinator so that the management can maintain strong relations with all donors and business partners.
- Any other duty assigned by the Immediate Supervisor.
Required Basic and Soft Skills
- Climate change understanding climate change impacts on forests and ecosystems.
- Forest ecology, knowledge of forest ecosystem, tree species & ecological processes
- GIS and Data analysis

WORKING CONDITIONS
The jobholder is required to work normal working hours with occasional long working hours. At times may be called upon to address emergency situations.
Minimum Requirements
- Bachelor Degree in Forestry, Monitoring and Evaluation, Natural Resources,
- Experience with M&E tools, data analysis software (e.g., Excel, SPSS, R), and GIS is an advantage
Experience
• Strong knowledge of dryland ecosystems and forestry practices.
