Vacancy Description
Restoring Trees and Livelihoods in Kenya Project.
Call for Enumerators to tag trees in Kitui and Baringo Counties, Kenya
About the project
The Center for International Forestry Research (CIFOR) and World Agroforestry (ICRAF) are coordinating the implementation of the project Restoring Trees and Livelihoods in Kenya Project alongside their partners Self-Help Africa (SHA) and Adventist Development and Relief Agency (ADRA) International. The pilot project, ‘Restoring Trees and Livelihoods in Kenya,’ aims to restore 32,500 hectares of land, enhance ecosystem services, improve the livelihoods of 30,000 households, and increase carbon storage in the landscape. This will be achieved by the adoption of evergreening practices such as agroforestry, which includes the planting and managing of 2,103,143 trees. This initiative is projected to sequester 1,294,264 tonnes of CO2 equivalent, which will be converted into certified carbon credits, contributing to global efforts to combat climate change. ICRAF is therefore seeking to recruit enumerators to tag planted trees and count trees managed by farmers in selected villages in Kitui and Baringo during 2022 and 2023 as part of the project.
Key Responsibilities
The enumerators’ main responsibility is to tag trees using tablets. Specific activities will include:
- Attend enumerator training to gain a thorough and clear overview of the context, objectives, relevance, and tools to be used for the tagging exercise.
- Conduct tree tagging pretest and actual tagging on farmers’ fields.
- Participate in team review meetings at the beginning/end of each day’s assignment.
- Ensure the data collected from the farmer’s field adheres to and complies with the required instructions to ensure accuracy, clarity, consistency, and quality.
- Ensure that all project farmers within your enumeration area have their trees fully tagged, without leaving any assigned farmer uncovered.
- Understand, take responsibility for your tasks, and remain committed throughout the tagging exercise’s period and process.
- Report and relay feedback as instructed and communicate any challenges to your supervisors.
Skills and experience
1) Degree in forestry, natural resource management or related field.

The enumerators will be engaged for a total of twenty days: two days training, pretesting the tool and reflections, and eighteen days for actual data collection. The enumerators will receive a daily payment of Ksh 3,000 upon delivering quality data, along with transport reimbursement. They will be required to fill in timesheets to indicate the actual number of days worked.
