Vacancy Description
National Environment Management Authority (NEMA), established under the Environmental Management and Co-ordination Act (EMCA) No. 8 of 1999 is mandated to exercise general supervision and co-ordination over all matters relating to the environment in Kenya and to be the Principal Instrument of Government in the implementation of all policies relating to the environment.
NEMA is implementing a four (4) year GEF-7 SFM project on “Strengthening Forest Management for improved Biodiversity Conservation and Climate Resilience in the Southern Rangelands of Kenya” in close coordination with International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) and other partners.
The project which is based at NEMA headquarters is seeking to recruit four (4) interns to support the Project Monitoring Unit activities.
Duties and Responsibilities
The Interns will work under the guidance of Project Coordinator, in consultation with other employees supporting the project.
Specific duties and responsibilities will include but not limited to;
- Assisting project operational workflow and process in compliance with policies and procedures;
- Assisting in administrative duties including planning for meetings, community engagements and procedures;
- Assisting consolidation of the project reports and generating meetings minutes;
- Assisting in carrying out preliminary desk analysis and review project progress against work plans;
- Support the Project Management Unit in day-to-day project activities;
- Any other duty that may be assigned from time to time.
Requirements for Appointment
For appointment to this position a candidate must have;
- Graduated with a university degree in any of the following field; Environmental Science, Natural Resource Management, Climate Change, Conservation Biology, Project planning and Management or any other related field from a recognized institution within the last five (5) years
- Good interpersonal skills required to interact with various stakeholders;
- Good written and spoken communication skills;
- Proficiency in Computer Applications;
- A valid certificate of good conduct from Directorate of Criminal Investigation (DCI).
Duration of Internship
Twelve (12) months
Stipend
The successful candidate will be paid a stipend at a rate of Kshs. 20,000/ per month.
