The Energy, Transport and Climate Change Portfolio consists of the following Projects/Programmes:
The Energising Development (EnDev) programme is a global partnership promoting energy access, funded by various European development agencies and co-managed by GIZ and the Netherlands Enterprise Agency, with operations in over 20 countries. EnDev Kenya, launched in 2006, focuses on improved cooking solutions and off-grid electrification across rural and peri-urban areas in at least 20 counties. Its portfolio includes projects like the African Biogas Component and Innovation Windows for clean cooking and solar financing. Key related initiatives include the GCF/EnDev Kenya project, which advances climate-friendly cooking technologies to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, and is jointly implemented with several government and non-governmental organizations. Other complementary efforts include the Project Development Programme (PDP), NDC Assist II, CoM SSA, energy supply projects in displacement settings, promotion of electromobility, support for 100% renewable energy (RE100), development of a green hydrogen economy, and the promotion of gender-responsive, cross-sectoral climate strategies and finance mechanisms—all aimed at fostering sustainable energy access, climate protection, and green economic growth in Kenya
Responsibilities
The Intern will be responsible for assisting the Contracts Department in delivering services on behalf of the above-mentioned projects of GIZ. This is to be done in compliance with the needs of the projects and the procedures and regulations of GIZ.
Tasks
Contract Management:
- Assist in organizing and maintaining contract files, ensuring documents are properly stored and easily accessible.
- Track key contract dates and deliverables under supervision.
- Support in preparing simple contract documents using provided templates.
Procurement Support:
- Assist in the preparation of procurement documents, such as Requests for Proposals (RFPs)
- Perform data entry and assist in updating the contracts monitoring tool
- Support in gathering and analyzing data and information related to contract management and processing.
Vendor relations:
- Assist in communicating with vendors regarding documentation and compliance requirements.
Data Analysis:
- Assist in organizing and inputting data related to contracts and procurement
- Support basic analysis and report preparation under supervision.
- Assist in preparation of reports and presentations to communicate findings and support decision-making processes.
- Assist in the preparation of audit documentation and support audit activities as required.
Archiving:
- Support document management by organizing, labeling, and filing physical records in a structured and accessible manner.
- Scan physical documents into digital formats for electronic archiving.
- Organize and store digital files in a systematic manner on the organization’s Document Management System or cloud-based storage.
Administrative Support.
- Providing general administrative support to the procurement team
- Assist in scheduling and coordinating meetings related to contracts and procurement.
- Take meeting notes and help in preparing summaries for internal reference.
Qualifications:
- The candidate must have graduated with Diploma or Bachelor’s degree (Business Administration, Bachelor of commerce in Procurement, or related field)
- Must have completed their course/graduated within the last 12 months
Preferred Skills:
- Familiarity with contract management and procurement tools.
- Knowledge of legal and regulatory considerations in contract management.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Detail-oriented with the ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines.
- Basic understanding of contract law and procurement processes.
Duty location
The intern will be based in GIZ Offices in Nairobi
