The Maa Trust is a non-profit organization based in community-owned conservancies in the Maasai Mara, Kenya. We work to increase the benefits of wildlife and conservation to Maasai families so that they appreciate, and contribute to the protection of, wild animals on their land, and we aim to unite communities by involving them in conservation at a management level.
Job Title: Intern Health
Location: The Maa Trust Headquaters
Reports To: Health and WASH Manager
Duration: Six months (June-November 2025)
Job Purpose:
The Health Programme Intern will support the effective planning, implementation, and monitoring of the Integrated Community Health Programme (ICHP). Working closely with the Health Coordinator and Health and WASH Manager, the intern will assist in facilitating community health initiatives, organizing stakeholder engagements, and collecting data. This internship offers a hands-on opportunity to gain field experience in public health programming and community engagement within a conservation and development context.
Key roles and responsibilities:
1. Program Support and Implementation
- Assist in preparing and reviewing ICHP work plans and budgets in collaboration with the Health team.
- Participate in the implementation of community-based health activities in alignment with The Maa Trust’s strategic goals.
- Support monthly meetings with Community Health Mobilizers (CHMs) and peer mentor review sessions.
- Contribute to the compilation of monthly and quarterly activity reports.
- Provide logistical support for planning health-related forums and training events.
- Follow up on activity timelines to ensure timely execution of program components.
2. Stakeholder and Partnership Engagement
a) Support communication and coordination with CHMs, CHVs, local leaders, and partner organizations.
b) Participate in community barazas, women’s forums, and youth dialogues.
c) Assist in organizing stakeholder meetings and feedback sessions.
d) Help build collaborative relationships with local health facilities and government agencies.
3. Capacity Building and Health Education
a) Participate in SRH outreach events targeting youth, men, and women.
b) Assist in preparing educational materials and co-facilitating community learning sessions.
c) Advocate for positive health behaviors and the rights to SRH services during outreach events.
4. Other Duties
a) Carry out additional tasks assigned by the Health Coordinator or Health and WASH Manager in line with program needs.
Qualifications and Skills:
- A diploma or bachelor’s degree (or in progress) in Public Health, Community Health, Development Studies, or a related field.
- Passionate about health promotion and community empowerment.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills in both English and Kiswahili (Maa is an added advantage).
- Basic knowledge of Adolescent and Sexual Reproductive Health and Rights (A/SRHR), WASH, or safeguarding is desirable.
- Ability to work independently and in diverse teams.
- Proficiency in MS Office; experience with KoboCollect or other data tools is a plus.
