HSE Graduate Trainee

Bulkstream owns and operates world-class bulk terminals in the port of Mombasa, designed for the handling of 8 million metric tonnes of dry and liquid bulk commodities per year across the East African corridor through inland terminals, to distribution centres and warehouses.

Role Summary

Promoting occupational safety, health and environment within Bulkstream Operation areas, the HSE-GT will assist in enforcing the occupational safety and health requirements and promote environmentally sustainable operation.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Gathers information that indicates the success of HSE and Supports the delivery of information against set key performance indicators.
2. Within the context of role and the boundaries of remit, captures and shares knowledge from across the organization to the people working within the organization.
3. Participate in incident investigation and management as part of team member.
4. Supports and enforces the organization’s control of contractor procedures at the business site  level.
5. Supports changes in the workplace under supervision by identifying potential hazards and risk with the changes.
6. Participates in HSC activities and meetings.
7. Identifies OSH hazards in the workplace including those that are transitory or are associated with work activity or work equipment and logs these to hazard register.
8. Promotes and creates awareness on online hazard reporting.
9. Conducts site inspections and safety tours in the company of HSE senior member to make sure that risk controls are being carried out effectively.
10. Support the principle of sustainability (People, Planet and Profit) through collection and monitoring of environmental KPI data.
11. Gathers feedback on possible continual improvement and register the same.

ACADEMIC REQUIREMENTS & EXPERIENCE

• Degree in Mechanical/Electrical engineering/Bachelor of biological/social/natural sciences or Occupational health and safety related.-Not more than two years after Graduation.
• Ability to operate computer effectively and the use of Microsoft Office products.

KNOWLEDGE & COMPETENCIES

• A basic knowledge of regulatory requirements and technical issues.
• Physically fit for long hours of site movement.
• Able to work with team members well and a team player.
• Ability to talk to people and facilitate Toolbox talks
