As part of our\u00a0R&D team in Nairobi<\/strong>, we are seeking a\u00a0Junior Electrical & Electronics Engineer<\/strong>\u00a0to contribute to the design, development, and optimization of our e-mobility solutions through sourcing, testing, integration, and maintenance of\u00a0electric motors, controllers, and IoT solutions<\/strong>. This is a unique opportunity to gain\u00a0hands-on experience<\/strong>\u00a0in Kenyas growing e-mobility industry and work alongside leading engineers in the field.<\/p>\n

Key Responsibilities<\/h3>\n
    \n
  • Electrical Systems Development & Testing:<\/strong>\n
      \n
    • Assist in the\u00a0specification, testing, integration, and optimization<\/strong>\u00a0of\u00a0electric powertrains and controllers<\/strong>\u00a0for SONGAs eTrikes\u200b.<\/li>\n
    • Support the development of\u00a0battery management systems (BMS)<\/strong>\u00a0and\u00a0IoT devices<\/strong>\u00a0for real-time tracking, remote control, and diagnostics\u200b.<\/li>\n
    • Conduct\u00a0bench testing and on-field performance analysis<\/strong>\u00a0of electrical sub-systems to improve overall system efficiency and reliability.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n
    • IoT Integration & Digital Systems:<\/strong>\n
        \n
      • Work on\u00a0embedded electronics and IoT applications<\/strong>, integrating\u00a0CAN bus communication<\/strong>\u00a0for real-time monitoring of vehicles and batteries\u200b.<\/li>\n
      • Collaborate with software engineers to develop\u00a0sensor-based monitoring solutions<\/strong>\u00a0for battery health, energy consumption, and predictive maintenance\u200b.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n
      • Prototyping & Product Development:<\/strong>\n
          \n
        • Help\u00a0brainstorm electrical designs<\/strong>\u00a0for benchtop testing and qualification of electrical components.<\/li>\n
        • Build first-hand prototypes of electrical systems for use in bench testing and vehicles.<\/li>\n
        • Participate in\u00a0converting concepts into prototypes<\/strong>\u00a0and scaling them into commercial products.<\/li>\n
        • Assist in designing electrical schematics and PCB layouts for new product iterations.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n
        • Field Testing & Performance Analysis:<\/strong>\n
            \n
          • Support\u00a0on-site troubleshooting<\/strong>\u00a0of e-mobility systems at SONGAs AgrEHubs and operational sites.<\/li>\n
          • Work closely with mechanics and technicians to analyze\u00a0real-world usage data<\/strong>\u00a0and optimize product performance\u200b.<\/li>\n
          • Test and perform repairs on electrical systems and individual components.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n
          • Technical Documentation & Reporting:<\/strong>\n
              \n
            • Develop detailed\u00a0engineering documentation, schematics, and test reports<\/strong>.<\/li>\n
            • Provide insights for\u00a0continuous product improvement<\/strong>\u00a0and contribute to R&D decision-making.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

              Qualifications & Skills<\/h3>\n

              Required:<\/strong><\/p>\n

                \n
              • Bachelors Degree<\/strong>\u00a0in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Mechatronics, or a related field.<\/li>\n
              • 2-3 years of hands-on experience<\/strong>\u00a0in electrical and electronics engineering.<\/li>\n
              • Hands-on prototyping skills, including soldering, crimping, breadboarding, and familiarity with electric bench equipment.<\/li>\n
              • Strong knowledge of\u00a0electric motors, motor controllers, and power electronics<\/strong>.<\/li>\n
              • Experience with\u00a0IoT systems, embedded electronics, and sensor integration<\/strong>.<\/li>\n
              • Familiarity with\u00a0communication protocols<\/strong>\u00a0and battery management systems (BMS)\u200b.<\/li>\n
              • Ability to\u00a0read and interpret electrical schematics<\/strong>\u00a0and\u00a0PCB layouts<\/strong>.<\/li>\n
              • Proficiency in\u00a0diagnostics, troubleshooting, and testing<\/strong>\u00a0of electrical components.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

                Preferred:<\/strong><\/p>\n

                • Work experience at a fast-moving hardware startup.<\/li>\n
                • Firsthand design experience with\u00a0CAN bus communication protocol<\/strong>\u00a0and battery management systems (BMS)\u200b.<\/li>\n
                • Hands-on experience with\u00a0renewable energy systems, lithium-ion battery packs, and charging infrastructure<\/strong>.<\/li>\n
                • Experience with\u00a0programming microcontrollers (Arduino, STM32, Raspberry Pi, etc.)<\/strong><\/li>\n
                • Understanding of\u00a0mechanical systems in electric vehicles<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n
