{"id":826505,"date":"2025-09-14T23:38:07","date_gmt":"2025-09-14T20:38:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/campusbiz.co.ke\/careers\/?post_type=job_listing&#038;p=826505"},"modified":"2025-12-24T00:13:17","modified_gmt":"2025-12-23T21:13:17","slug":"826505-lab-intern","status":"expired","type":"job_listing","link":"https:\/\/campusbiz.co.ke\/careers\/?post_type=job_listing&p=826505","title":{"rendered":"Lab Intern"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Duration:<\/strong> 6months<\/p>\n<p><strong>Salary:<\/strong> 20k per month<\/p>\n<h4>Duties<\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li>Sample Preparation: Assist in collecting, handling, and preparing food, water, or environmental samples for microbiological analysis.<\/li>\n<li>Sterilization &amp; Media Preparation: Prepare culture media, reagents, and solutions; sterilize equipment and materials using autoclaves.<\/li>\n<li>Equipment Maintenance: Help maintain lab equipment such as incubators, biosafety cabinets, microscopes, and autoclaves.<\/li>\n<li>Microbiological Testing<\/li>\n<li>Perform streak plating, pour plating, and spread plating.<\/li>\n<li>Isolate and identify microorganisms from samples.<\/li>\n<li>Conduct total plate counts, yeast and mold counts, coliform testing, etc.<\/li>\n<li>Perform gram staining and other biochemical identification tests.<\/li>\n<li>Test surfaces, air, water, and hands for microbial contamination (common in food manufacturing or pharmaceutical labs).<\/li>\n<li>Assist in routine testing of food or product samples for pathogens like Salmonella, Listeria, E. coli, etc.<\/li>\n<li>Perform shelf-life studies and monitor microbial growth over time.<\/li>\n<li>Data Entry and Analysis:<\/li>\n<li>Record results accurately in lab notebooks or software systems.<\/li>\n<li>Interpret results under supervision and flag anomalies or contamination.<\/li>\n<li>Documentation &amp; Compliance<\/li>\n<li>Maintain Lab Records:<\/li>\n<li>Ensure proper documentation of experiments, tests, and findings (following GLP or GMP protocols).<\/li>\n<li>Assist in Report Writing:<\/li>\n<li>Help compile technical reports or summaries based on lab findings.<\/li>\n<li>Follow Safety Procedures:<\/li>\n<li>Adhere to biosafety protocols (BSL-1 or BSL-2), proper PPE usage, and lab hygiene practices.<\/li>\n<li>Learn new lab techniques, SOPs, and analytical methods.<\/li>\n<li>Molecular Techniques: PCR, DNA extraction, or electrophoresis (if the lab does molecular microbiology).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h4>Qualifications<\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li>BSc Degree or Diploma in\u00a0<strong>Food Science, Microbiology, Biochemistry<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>Prior internship past experience in a\u00a0<strong>microbiology laboratory<\/strong>.
