The Union work to advance sustainable development and create a just world that values and conserves nature. The IUCN Eastern and Southern Africa Regional Office (ESARO) works across 24 countries to support its Members and partners in achieving effective conservation outcomes. To strengthen Membership engagement and visibility, IUCN ESARO seeks a Communications Intern to support communication, outreach and engagement activities related to the ESARO Membership.

Created in 1948, IUCN is now the world’s largest and most diverse environmental network, harnessing the knowledge, resources and reach of more than 1,400 Member organisations and around 16,000 experts. It is a leading provider of conservation data, assessments and analysis. Its broad membership enables IUCN to fill the role of incubator and trusted repository of best practices, tools and international standards.

IUCN provides a neutral space in which diverse stakeholders including governments, NGOs, scientists, businesses, local communities, indigenous peoples organisations and others can work together to forge and implement solutions to environmental challenges and achieve sustainable development.

Working with many partners and supporters, IUCN implements a large and diverse portfolio of conservation projects worldwide. Combining the latest science with the traditional knowledge of local communities, these projects work to reverse habitat loss, restore ecosystems and improve people’s well-being.

www.iucn.org<g id="wpil-svg-outbound-6-icon-path">
                            <g fill-rule="evenodd" transform="matrix(0.5959368,0,0,0.5959368,-2.3837472,-2.2212188)">

                            </g>
                        </g>
https://twitter.com/IUCN<use href="#wpil-svg-outbound-6-icon-path"></use>

Intern, Membership Communications

Location: Eastern and Southern Africa Regional Office, Nairobi, Kenya
Reporting to: Regional Membership & Executive Affairs Manager, Regional Office
Work percentage:   100%
Grade:   -
Expected start date: 01 March 2026
Type of contract: Fixed-term (up to 6 months)

SPECIFIC DUTIES:

Support the development and dissemination of Membership Quarterly newsletters and success stories;

Member Spotlights for new Members and Member Initiatives.

Support with social media posts and website content highlighting Member initiatives.

Support development of ESARO Members profiles both at regional and country levels.

Assist in communication around regional Membership events and Webinars.

Production of short videos, photo stories and blogs highlighting Member Impact.

Collect stories and updates from Members for communication channels.

Liaise with the IUCN Communications team to ensure alignment with IUCN brand and messaging.

Prepare the quarterly Membership Communications activity report.

Perform other duties as may be assigned from time to time.
