Background<\/h4>\n

This is a pilot internship opportunity designed to pair a Kenya-based intem with a Europe-based intern around the 2026 Annual Lecture: Climate Change as Lived Experience: Health, Bodies, and Displacement\", a two-day event in Nairobi co-organised with the Aga Khan University's Institute for the Study of Muslim Civilisations (ISMC) in London, UK, and the AKU Graduate School of Media and Communications in Nairobi, Kenya. The lecture includes:<\/p>\n

  • A public lecture and panel discussion<\/li>\n
  • A media-focused masterclass<\/li>\n
  • A closed-door research and grant-writing workshop<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

    The Kenya-based intern will serve as the primary on-site support during the event, working in close coordination with the Europe-based intern throughout the preparation and post-event phases. Together, the pair will gain hands-on experience in research, communications, and international event coordination<\/p>\n

    Objectives<\/h4>\n

    The overall objective of the internship role is to support the delivery of a high-level international event while providing hands-on learning in event coordination, research, and communications. The intem will contribute across all three phases of the event: preparation, delivery, and post-event, with a particular focus on on-site logistics and documentation.<\/p>\n

    The Kenya-based intern will contribute to the following:<\/p>\n

    • Support the delivery of a high-level international academic and policy event Provide practical learning experience in event organisation, research, and communications<\/li>\n
    • Expose the intern to key themes of climate change, migration, and global health<\/li>\n
    • Foster cross-cultural collaboration with a peer intern based in Europe<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

      Scope and Key Responsibilities<\/h4>\n

      Event Preparation (On-site) May-June 2026)<\/strong><\/p>\n

      • Support development of communication materials (short briefs, speaker bios, social media content)<\/li>\n
      • Assist in preparing participant lists, invitations, and logistics trackers<\/li>\n
      • Help organise event materials (agendas, name badges, printed folders)<\/li>\n
      • Coordinate regularly with the Europe-based intern to align on tasks and progress<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

        Event Delivery (On-site in Nairobi | End of June\/Early July 2026)<\/strong><\/p>\n

        • Provide full on-site support during the event:<\/li>\n
        • Welcoming participants and guiding logistics<\/li>\n
        • Registration desk management<\/li>\n
        • Coordinating with vendors, AV, and catering as needed<\/li>\n
        • Assist with note-taking during sessions (lecture, panels, masterclass)<\/li>\n
        • Support documentation of the event (photos, short summaries, quotes)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

          Communications & Documentation<\/strong><\/p>\n

          • Draft short daily summaries or highlights of discussions<\/li>\n
          • Assist with social media posts, newsletters, or event coverage<\/li>\n
          • Compile key insights from sessions in accessible, non-technical language<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

            Research & Leaming Support<\/strong><\/p>\n

            • Conduct light background research on:<\/li>\n
            • Climate change and displacement<\/li>\n
            • Health and migration themes<\/li>\n
            • Support the preparation of briefing notes or summaries for internal use<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

              Post-Event Tasks<\/strong><\/p>\n

              • Assist in organising event outputs: notes, photos, and participant feedback<\/li>\n
              • Contribute to a short event report or blog-style summary<\/li>\n
              • Provide written reflections or lessons learned as part of the pilot evaluation<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

                    Reporting and Coordination<\/h4>\n

                    The Youth Intern will be supervised by:<\/p>\n

                    • A Samuel Hall team member (primary supervisor)<\/li>\n
                    • With exposure to AKU partners and event organisers<\/li>\n
                    • Weekly check-ins will be held to review progress, agree on upcoming tasks, and align with event priorities. The intern will also coordinate closely with the Europe-based intern on a regular basis.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

                      Profile of the Youth Intern<\/h4>\n

                      • An ongoing undergraduate student (final year preferred), based in Nairobi, Kenya<\/li>\n
                      • Strong interest in global issues, climate change, migration, or displacement<\/li>\n
                      • Good writing and communication skills in English<\/li>\n
                      • Comfortable working in a fast-paced, high-level event environment<\/li>\n
                      • Organised, proactive, and eager to learn<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

                        Learning Outcomes<\/h4>\n

                        By the end of the internship, the student will:<\/p>\n

                              Conditions\/Remuneration<\/h4>\n

                              Samuel Hall will provide reimbursement for meals and local transport incurred in direct connection with internship duties. This applies to the in-person event period in Nairobi and any pre-event preparation activities requiring the intern's physical presence.
