As an Intern, you\u2019ll support the Research Office through data collection, policy review, and report compilation for Members of the County Assembly. Ready to apply your academic knowledge to real-world legislative processes?<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p>The County Assembly of Bungoma, in pursuance of its mandate in youth empowerment and human resource development, invites applications from suitably qualified Kenyan graduates for its Internship Programme for the Financial Year 2025\/2026.<\/p>\n<p>This programme is a strategic initiative designed to bridge the gap between academic learning and professional practice, equipping young Kenyans with hands-on experience while contributing to the operational effectiveness of the Assembly. Successful candidates will be mentored by seasoned professionals across various departments and will gain invaluable exposure to the legislative, administrative, and support functions of a constitutional institution.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Position Title <\/strong>Intern \u2013 Research Officer<br \/>\n<strong>Department \/ Section<\/strong>: Research Office<br \/>\n<strong>Number of Positions<\/strong>: 4<br \/>\n<strong>Duration<\/strong>: Twelve (12) Months \u2013 Non-Renewable<br \/>\n<strong>Grade: <\/strong>Intern<br \/>\n<strong>Reports To<\/strong>: Senior Research Officer<br \/>\n<strong>Working Hours<\/strong>: Monday to Friday, 8:00 AM \u2013 5:00 PM<\/p>\n<p><strong>1. Purpose of the Position<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>To support the Research Office in conducting legislative research, policy analysis, and providing evidence-based information to Members of the County Assembly (MCAs) to facilitate informed decision-making and effective legislative oversight.<\/p>\n<p><strong>2. Minimum Qualifications &amp; Requirements<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Must be a Kenyan citizen aged between 18 and 35 years.<\/li>\n<li>Bachelor's Degree in Social Sciences, Public Policy, Political Science, Development Studies, Economics, or an equivalent qualification from a recognized university.<\/li>\n<li>Must have completed studies within the last two (2) years.<\/li>\n<li>Demonstrated research interest or prior exposure to research activities (e.g., dissertations, academic papers, field surveys) is an added advantage.<\/li>\n<li>Computer literacy and proficiency in research tools and databases is required.<\/li>\n<li>Recommendation \/ Introduction Letter from the institution of learning is mandatory.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>3. Duties and Responsibilities<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Conduct desk research and literature reviews on legislative, policy, socio-economic and development topics of interest to the County Assembly.<\/li>\n<li>Prepare research briefs, policy papers, background notes and thematic reports to support MCAs in their legislative, oversight and representation roles.<\/li>\n<li>Collect, analyse and synthesise data from primary and secondary sources to inform committee work and plenary debates.<\/li>\n<li>Assist in monitoring the implementation of county government programmes and projects relevant to the Assembly's oversight mandate.<\/li>\n<li>Respond to information requests from MCAs, committees and Assembly departments on specific policy or legislative issues.<\/li>\n<li>Support the review and analysis of Bills, Motions, Petitions and other legislative documents tabled before the Assembly.<\/li>\n<li>Maintain a database of research resources, policy documents, legislative reports and reference materials.<\/li>\n<li>Attend committee sittings to take notes and provide technical research support to committee members.<\/li>\n<li>Assist in compiling quarterly and annual research reports for the Assembly.<\/li>\n<li>Perform any other duties assigned by the supervisor within the scope of the Research Office.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>4.
