The Maa Trust is a non-profit organization based in the Maasai Mara, Kenya, that promotes community-led conservation by fostering sustainable development. It works with local wildlife conservancies to improve livelihoods through education, water access, and social enterprises like Maa Beadwork and Maa Honey, which empower women and reduce poverty.<\/p>\n

Job Title<\/strong>: Intern Data Management
\nLocation<\/strong>: The Maa Trust Headquarters
\nReports to<\/strong>: MEAL and Grants Manager
\nDuration<\/strong>: One Year (June 2026- May 2027)<\/p>\n

Job Purpose:<\/strong><\/p>\n

The Data Management Intern will support the MEAL Department in strengthening The Maa Trust's data systems, ensuring quality data collection, entry, cleaning, storage, analysis, and visualization aligned with The Maa Trust mission, vision, values, and strategic priorities. The incumbent will collaborate with the internal teams, including programs, to address key community challenges in the Maasai Mara landscape, and assure quality of programme implementation, and achieve evidence-based outcomes and impact. The position will be based at The Maa Trust's HQ in the Maasai Mara, Narok County.<\/p>\n

Key roles and responsibilities:<\/h4>\n

1. Data Collection & Management<\/strong><\/p>\n

    \n
  1. Assist in updating data collection tools and templates (e.g., Excel-based trackers, KoboToolbox).<\/li>\n
  2. Support field data collection (surveys, FGDs, KIIs) using digital tools (e.g., KoBoToolbox).<\/li>\n
  3. Clean, code, validate, and enter data into databases (Excel, or SQL) and uploading data collected from field teams into TMT's central databases.<\/li>\n
  4. Organize and archive physical and digital data records of MEAL for easy retrieval and reference.<\/li>\n
  5. Assist in planning and executing Community engagement Forums<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    2. Analysis & Visualization<\/strong><\/p>\n

      \n
    1. Assist in analyzing quantitative\/qualitative data using Excel, Power BI, or Stata.<\/li>\n
    2. Create dashboards and infographics to visualize program impact for reports using PowerBI and Microsoft SQL.<\/li>\n
    3. Contribute to the design and maintenance of dashboards and data visualization tools for internal reporting.<\/li>\n
    4. Participate in the preparation of monthly, quarterly, annual and donor reports through data aggregation and basic analysis.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

      3. System Improvement<\/strong><\/p>\n

        \n
      1. Identify and troubleshoot data quality issues.<\/li>\n
      2. Support routine and ad hoc data quality checks and verification processes.<\/li>\n
      3. Propose improvements to data storage and management processes.<\/li>\n
      4. Participate in DMEAL team trainings on data tools and best practices.<\/li>\n
      5. Provide logistical and documentation support during training, learning sessions, and field data collection exercises.<\/li>\n
      6. Ensure data security and confidentiality protocols are followed.<\/li>\n
      7. Perform other duties as assigned by the MEAL and Grants manager.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

        Qualifications and Skills:<\/h4>\n
          \n
        1. Bachelor's degree in Statistics, Data Science, Public Health, Social Sciences, Computer Science, or a related field.<\/li>\n
        2. Should be recent graduates within the last two years<\/li>\n
        3. Proficiency in Microsoft Excel (advanced level required); knowledge of data analysis or visualization tools (e.g., Power BI, SPSS, Stata, R) is an added advantage.<\/li>\n
        4. Familiarity with mobile data collection platforms such as SurveyCTO, ODK, or KoboToolbox.<\/li>\n
        5. Strong organizational and analytical skills with keen attention to detail.<\/li>\n
        6. Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English; knowledge of Kiswahili and Maa is a plus.<\/li>\n
        7. Passion for community development, conservation, and social impact work.<\/li>\n
        8. Experience with GIS mapping (ArcGIS, QGIS) or SQL databases.<\/li>\n
        9.
