{"id":907303,"date":"2026-05-19T22:35:18","date_gmt":"2026-05-19T19:35:18","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/campusbiz.co.ke\/careers\/?post_type=job_listing&#038;p=907303"},"modified":"2026-05-19T22:55:05","modified_gmt":"2026-05-19T19:55:05","slug":"907303-kagrc-livestock-officer","status":"publish","type":"job_listing","link":"https:\/\/campusbiz.co.ke\/careers\/vacancy\/907303-kagrc-livestock-officer\/","title":{"rendered":"Livestock Officer"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Kenya Animal Genetic Resources Centre (KAGRC) is a state corporation under the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock Development mandated to produce, preserve, conserve and distribute animal genetic materials.<\/p>\n<p>KAGRC seeks to recruit qualified persons to fill the following positions.<\/p>\n<p><strong>K<\/strong><strong>A<\/strong><strong>GR<\/strong><strong>C 6\/5\/2026(2) VETERINARY OFFICER, JOB GRADE KAGRC 6 (1)<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Ref<\/strong>: KAGRC 6\/5\/2026(2)<\/p>\n<p>Duties and responsibilities entail assisting in:<\/p>\n<p><strong>Breeding Technologies<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Preparing livestock production reports;<\/li>\n<li>Analyzing livestock inputs and products samples;<\/li>\n<li>Participating in livestock improvement and multiplication;<\/li>\n<li>Undertaking genomic evaluation of livestock;<\/li>\n<li>Developing and updating sire catalogues; and<\/li>\n<li>Collaborating with other officers in carrying out research in breeding and breeding technologies.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Gene banking &amp; Conservation<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Maintaining a national livestock resources gene bank;<\/li>\n<li>Taking stock of livestock tissues, DNA, semen and embryos of all livestock and emerging livestock species in Kenya;<\/li>\n<li>Identification of endangered species;<\/li>\n<li>Undertaking conservation and avail livestock tissues, DNA, semen and embryos of all livestock and emerging livestock species in Kenya for both research and breeding;<\/li>\n<li>Updating database on all livestock tissues, DNA, semen and embryos of all existing and emerging livestock species;<\/li>\n<li>Training famers individual farmers\/ communities for conservation of animal genetic resources; and<\/li>\n<li>Participating in research activities pertaining to genebanking and conservation.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Germplasm Production<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Supervising media preparation;<\/li>\n<li>Collecting germplasm;<\/li>\n<li>Evaluating and validating animal germplasm;<\/li>\n<li>Processing of germplasm;<\/li>\n<li>Packaging animal germplasm;<\/li>\n<li>Preservation of germplasm;<\/li>\n<li>Ensuring adherence to good veterinary practices;<\/li>\n<li>Training staff and other stakeholders in germplasm processing;<\/li>\n<li>Validating laboratory results and making appropriate recommendations; and x. Participating in research activities pertaining to germplasm productio<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h4>Person Specifications<\/h4>\n<p>For appointment to this grade, a candidate must have: -<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Bachelors degree in Veterinary Medicine or equivalent qualification from a recognized institution;<\/li>\n<li>Registered by Kenya Veterinary Board and in good standing; and iii.
