CGIAR science is dedicated to transforming food, land, and water systems in\u00a0climate\u00a0crisis, and it is carried out by 15 CGIAR Centers\/Alliances in close collaboration with hundreds of partners, including national and regional research institutes, civil society organizations, academia, development organizations, and the private sector.<\/p>\n<p><b>About the role<\/b><\/p>\n<p>The\u00a0Crop Improvement\u00a0Intern will contribute to the design and implementation of a defined research experiment or study within\u00a0CIP\u2019sPotato\u00a0breeding\u00a0program. The intern will work closely with the breeding team, gaining practical exposure to greenhouse operations, experimental data collection, and analytical methods.<\/p>\n<p>The position is based in\u00a0<b>Nairobi, Kenya (PQS-Muguga\u00a0station)<\/b>, and reports to the\u00a0<b>Potato Breeding Team Lead<\/b>.<\/p>\n<h4>Key responsibilities<\/h4>\n<p><b>Research &amp; Experimentation<\/b><\/p>\n<div>\n<ul>\n<li>Support the design and implementation of an experiment or research study on a topic defined in consultation with the intern and the supervising scientist<\/li>\n<li>Conduct literature reviews and contribute to the development of research protocols<\/li>\n<li>Collect field and greenhouse data\u00a0in accordance with\u00a0established experimental protocols<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<p><b>Data Analysis &amp; Reporting<\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Compile, clean, and manage experimental datasets using\u00a0appropriate tools, including R<\/li>\n<li>Analyze data, interpret results, and draw conclusions relevant to hybrid breeding improvement<\/li>\n<li>Prepare technical reports and presentations summarizing findings and recommendations<\/li>\n<li>Contribute to documentation of best practices and lessons learned within the breeding\u00a0programme<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>Greenhouse Operations Support<\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Assist\u00a0with day-to-day operations in the breeding greenhouse at PQS-Muguga<\/li>\n<li>Support plant maintenance, crossing activities, and seed management tasks as\u00a0required<\/li>\n<li>Work collaboratively with the breeding team and field staff on operational activities<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h4>Requirements<\/h4>\n<p>What are we looking for?<\/p>\n<p><b>Education<\/b><\/p>\n<div>\n<ul>\n<li>Bachelor\u2019s degree (BSc) in Agriculture, Plant Breeding, Agronomy, Plant Science, or a closely related field<\/li>\n<li>Currently enrolled in a plant breeding\/agronomy graduate program is an advantage<\/li>\n<li>Desirable experience in data management and analysis, preferably using R or similar statistical software<\/li>\n<li>Prior exposure to plant breeding activities, whether through coursework, research attachments, or practical experience<\/li>\n<li>Desirable experience in data collection within a research or agricultural field setting<\/li>\n<li>Desirable internship experience with similar activities<\/li>\n<li>Advanced level of MS Office and intermediate knowledge of database work<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<p><b>Skills &amp; Competencies<\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to translate data and research results into practical recommendations.<\/li>\n<li>Detail-oriented with good\u00a0organizational\u00a0skills and a willingness to learn.<\/li>\n<li>Advanced written and spoken English; fluency in Swahili (official language).<\/li>\n<li>Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team.<\/li>\n<li>Core competencies: innovation, accountability, teamwork, and integrity.<\/li>\n<li>Specific competencies: analytical thinking, planning &amp;
