Are you a recent graduate eager to gain hands-on experience in aquaculture? Weโre looking for Aquaculture Interns to support small-scale fish farmers under Aquarechโs programs. If you have a degree, diploma or certificate in Aquaculture, Fisheries, or a related field, a passion for sustainable fish farming, and are comfortable working in rural settings, this is your chance!
We are a social enterprise targeting rural based small-scale fish farmers to improve their productivity, increase income and develop an inclusive community based aquaculture value chain.
The Aquaculture Interns will assist the Aquaculture Sub-department in delivering technical support to small-scale fish farmers under Aquarech LTD programs. Their primary role will be to support the implementation of aquaculture technical components and build farmers’ capacity to adopt sustainable practices.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist in training and capacity-building sessions on Good Aquaculture Practices (GAP) for fish farmers.
- Provide technical advice to farmers on pond and cage management.
- Support farmers in setting up and maintaining sustainable aquaculture systems.
- Conduct field visits to monitor farmer activities and provide hands-on assistance.
- Encourage and assist farmers in downloading and utilizing the Aquarech Farmer App for farm management and data tracking.
- Collect and analyze field data for program reporting and improvement.
- Support awareness campaigns on sustainable aquaculture practices.
- Assist in organizing community outreach and farmer engagement events.
Qualifications and Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree, diploma or certificate in Aquaculture, Fisheries, or a related field (recent graduates are encouraged to apply).
- Basic understanding of aquaculture practices and pond/cage management.
- Proficiency in using mobile applications and technology to support farming.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Ability to work in rural settings and interact with small-scale farmers within preferred county.
- Willingness to travel frequently to field sites.
