About the Role:
The Research & Learning Intern will be responsible for supporting BRAC International’s Learning & Effectiveness portfolio. This internship offers a current student or recent graduate the opportunity to gain hands-on experience in research, monitoring, and learning within a development context. The intern will assist the Research & Learning team in organizing and communicating evidence that contributes to learning and program improvement across BRAC International’s operations.
Responsibilities generally fall into three categories: 1) providing support with desk research, data entry, and basic data analysis, 2) assisting with routine meeting coordination, note-taking, and document preparation related to internal learning activities and external research partnerships, and 3) supporting the formatting of knowledge products and maintaining organized records.
By the end of the internship, the intern will have developed practical skills in applied research, evidence synthesis, and the use of learning to inform program decisions.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist in compiling reference materials and drafting simple literature reviews on topics related to BRAC International’s work (e.g., youth empowerment, early childhood development, livelihoods).
- Assist in organizing and participating in meetings and calls with internal teams and external partners.
- Assist in preparing agendas, taking meeting minutes, and documenting follow-up actions.
- Assist in preparing materials for training, webinars, or workshops.
- Support the testing of research tools, including surveys and interview guides.
- Support the cleaning and organization of quantitative or qualitative data.
- Transcribe qualitative data (e.g., interview and focus group recordings) verbatim, ensuring accuracy and clarity.
- Assist with basic data analysis and help produce simple tables, charts, or summaries for internal use.
- Contribute to internal or external knowledge products such as blogs, reports, or slide decks.
- Support with formatting, proofreading, and organizing study protocols, reports, and other documents.
- Help maintain shared files and knowledge management systems.
Safeguarding responsibilities:
- Ensure the safety of team members from any harm, abuse, neglect, harassment and exploitation to achieve the programme’s goals on safeguarding implementation. Act as a key source of support, guidance and expertise on safeguarding for establishing a safe working environment.
- Practice, promote and endorse the issues of safeguarding policy among team members and ensure the implementation of safeguarding standards in every course of action.
- Follow the safeguarding reporting procedure in case any reportable incident takes place, encourage others to do so.
Academic Qualifications:
- Recent graduate or current final-year student in international development, public policy, data sciences, or a related field.
- Master’s degree (completed or in progress) is an advantage, but not required.
Required Skills, Competencies & Knowledge:
- Familiarity with Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
- Good prioritization and analytical skills.
- Strong interpersonal, communication, and coordination skills.
- Willingness to learn and adapt to new tools and platforms.
- Attention to detail and ability to follow instructions accurately.
- Ability to exercise discretion when handling confidential or sensitive information.
- Interest in the development sector and openness to working in a multicultural environment.
Experience Requirements:
- Some exposure to research or M&E through coursework, internships, or volunteer work will be an advantage.
