JOB PURPOSE
The overall purpose of the position is to contribute to the achievement of the Marginpar Production Strategy by supporting the agronomist in conducting detailed research and experiments on different flowers,aiming to enhance yield,quality and sustainability of flower production.
JOB DISCRIPTION SUMMARY
Working closely with the agronomist ,the researcher will conduct and execute research projects,collect and analyze data, and provide recommendations for implementing best practices.
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES & DELIVERABLES (100%)
- Crop production and nutrition optimization: Conduct research to identify optimal planting techniques, irrigation, fertigation strategies, and nutrient management practices for different flower trials. Design and conduct field experiments under the guidance of the agronomist to test hypotheses. Record, analyze, and report experiment results, suggesting practical applications of findings.
- Data collection and analysis: Collect soil, water, and plant samples for analysis to determine health and growth conditions. Analyze data trends to recommend improvements in cultivation practices. Analyze experimental data to determine the most effective agronomic practices to maximize flower yield and quality.
- Technology and innovation: Explore new technologies and methodologies for potential application in flower farming. Keep abreast of scientific advancements and integrate innovative practices to enhance farm productivity.
- Documentation and Reporting: Prepare detailed reports on research findings and present them to the agronomist and management. Document all phases of research, including methodology, results, and recommendations.
- Sustainabilty Initiatives: Research and propose environmentally sustainable and cost-effective farming practices. Evaluate the long-term impact of cultivation practices on soil health and ecosystem balance.
- Soil Health improvement: Assess soil properties and fertility levels inflower farming systems. Research soil amendment techniques and crop rotation practices to improve soil health and optimize plant nutrition.
- Collaboration: Work closely with other researchers ,agronomists, and farm staff to implement research findings. Participate in professional networks and conferences to share and gain knowledge.
- Varietal evaluation and selection: Evaluate different flower varieties for performance under local growing conditions, considering factors such as yield, quality, and disease resistance and recommend based on research findings.
- Pest and disease management : Investigate integrated pest management (IPM) strategies to minimize the impact of pests and diseases on flower crops. Evaluate biological, cultural, and chemical control methods and recommend strategies for sustainable pest and disease management.
QUALIFICATIONS CRITERIA
ACADEMIC AND PROFESSIONAL QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s Degree in Agronomy, Horticulture, Plant Science, or any other related field(Preferred)
- Diploma in Agronomy, Horticulture, Plant Science, or any other related field (a must)
- Strong foundation in research methodologies and data analysis
EXPERIENCE
- Internship or academic research experience in horticulture, Floriculture, or a related field (preferred)
- Familiarity with experimental design and statistical analysis software such as R, SPSS, or Excel (an added advantage)
