The Norwegian Refugee Council is a humanitarian, non-governmental organisation that protects the rights of people affected by displacement.

Position: Regional ICT Intern (ICT= Information and communications technology)

Reports to: Regional ICT Officer

Supervision of: N/A

Duty station: Nairobi

Travel: N/A

Project number: NOUA0012

Duration & Type of Contract: 4 months

Role and responsibilities

The Regional ICT Intern is mainly responsible for providing technical ICT support for the East and Southern Africa Regional office.

Generic responsibilities

These responsibilities shall be the same for all positions with the same title. The responsibilities shall be short and essential. Details belong in the Work and Development plan.

  1. Implement NRC’s ICT policies and guidelines at office level.
  2. Schedule computer related services and maintenance.
  3. Ensure information security for all NRC systems in line with GDPR regulations.
  4. Provide ICT support and training to staff within office.

Specific responsibilities

These responsibilities shall be adapted to the particularities of the job location and context, phase of operation, strategic focus and type of intervention. This section shall be revised whenever a new employee is hired or the context changes significantly.

  1. Provide on-site technical support to end users on hardware and software related issues.
  2. Assist with installation, configuration and maintenance of hardware, software and IT systems.
  3. Provide training to users on hardware and software usage.
  4. Assist with inventory management and record-keeping for ICT equipment and software.
  5. Monitor and maintain network connections.
  6. Perform other duties as assigned by the IT team.

  • Empowering and building trust. Experience with troubleshooting common computer hardware and software issues.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office and various operating systems including Windows and MacOS.
  • Familiarity with basic networking concepts.
  • Strong problem-solving and communications skills.

3. Professional competencies

These are skills, knowledge and experience that are important for effective performance.

Generic professional competencies for this position:

  • Recently graduated from a college/university degree program in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field
  • Strong problem-solving skills and experience in troubleshooting common computer hardware and software issues.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office and various operating systems including Windows and MacOS.
  • Familiarity with basic networking concepts.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
  • Eagerness to learn and take on new challenges

Context related skills, knowledge and experience:

  • Knowledge of the context in the East and Southern Africa Region.
