Murang’a County Government Internship Program is a government youth programme whose main objective is to offer college graduates the opportunity to gain hands on experience and build skills in order to enhance their chances for employment, networking and entrepreneurship.

TERMS OF ENGAGEMENT

Job type: Full Time

Stipend: The Interns will be paid a stipend at a rate determined by the County Government.
Timeline: Twelve (12) months Non-renewable

Eligibility Criteria

To qualify, an applicant must

  • Be a Kenyan citizen not over the age of 35 years
  • Be an unemployed graduate from a recognized training institution who has completed a Diploma or degree course in the last 24 months or less, in the relevant field.
  • Not have benefited from a similar internship program or been exposed to work experience related to their area of study since graduating.
  • Not have exited from formal employment.
  • ALL Applications for internship should be supported by the applicant’s university/college or related institution’s records/certificates/transcripts.

CIVIL ENGINEER (INTERN) – FOUR (4) POSTS

Minimum Requirements

  • Diploma in Civil engineering or its equivalent and relevant qualification from a recognized institution.
  • Be a registered member of IET, KETRB.
  • Be computer literate

Duties and responsibilities

  • Planning, designing, and overseeing the construction and maintenance of public infrastructure such as roads, bridges, and public buildings.
  • Preparing design plans, blueprints, and technical specifications for civil and road works.
  • Conducting feasibility studies and site analyses to assess project viability and suitability.
  • Construction and maintenance
  • Supervising and controlling all construction works to ensure they are completed on time, within budget, and to quality standards.
  • Monitoring progress, resolving issues on-site, and ensuring adherence to approved designs and safety protocols.
  • Assisting in the maintenance of roads, drainage systems, and other public works.
  • Testing materials and commissioning completed infrastructure to ensure it functions correctly and safely.
  • Preparing tender documents, cost estimates, and contract documents for civil works.
  • Undertaking site measurements and preparing interim and final accounts for work completed.
  • Analysing and evaluating claims arising from construction contracts.
  • Preparing work plans, reports, and work schedules in liaison with supervisors.
  • Supervising junior engineering staff, technicians, and contractors.
  • Collaborating with other departments, stakeholders, and regulatory bodies to ensure project success.
  • Communicating with communities and addressing concerns related to projects.
