About the Role
Data Protection and Quality Assurance Officer
Job Purpose
To maintain KeNIC’s data governance framework and ensure that stakeholders’ (data subjects’) information is handled in full compliance with the Data Protection Act and other applicable regulations. The role is responsible for implementing KeNIC’s data protection strategy, ensuring adherence to industry standards, regulatory requirements, and cybersecurity best practices.
Responsibilities
- Provide guidance and support to internal and external stakeholders on data protection matters.
- Coordinate the implementation of KeNIC’s data protection strategy and related frameworks.
- Monitor compliance with industry standards, regulatory requirements, and relevant authorities.
- Conduct Data Protection Impact Assessments (DPIAs).
- Foster and promote a culture of data protection and privacy across the organization and with stakeholders.
- Advise on data protection aspects of incident response and support breach notification processes as required by law
- Provide support on matters of registrar and registrant data protection and dispute resolution.
- Implement quality assurance frameworks to maintain operational efficiency and service excellence.
- Develop, review, and update data protection policies and collaborate to align QA and cybersecurity practices with privacy requirements.
- Advise and support KeNIC on data protection compliance requirements.
- Act as the primary point of contact for data protection matters with regulators, staff, and other relevant bodies.
- Monitor compliance by conducting regular data protection and privacy assessments/audits.
- Drive the implementation of key processes in line with data protection principles and collaborate with different departments to identify process gaps and implement corrective actions.
- Prepare and submit periodic data protection compliance reports to relevant stakeholders.
- Review and monitor vendor contracts to ensure compliance with data protection requirements.
- Organize and deliver training and awareness programs on data protection, privacy, and cybersecurity for stakeholders.
- Execute KeNIC’s Alternative Dispute Resolution Process (ADRP) where applicable.
- Perform any other related duties as may be assigned by the supervisor.
Qualifications
Essential Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in information technology, Computer Science, Law, Data Protection, or related field
- At least 1 years of experience data protection, compliance, privacy , ICT, legal or related fields
- Sounding working knowledge of the Data Protection laws and other relevant and applicable laws, regulations
- Experience in developing policies and compliance training
- Experience in working in an IT industry
- Experience in managing data incidents and breaches
- Good understanding of data processing operations, including information systems, data security and data protection needs of an institution.
- Any other certifications in IT courses are an added advantage
