Traineeship Opportunity: EU Delegation to Kenya, Nairobi Are you a recent graduate eager to gain experience in international relations and diplomacy?

The EU Delegation to Kenya is offering a 6-month traineeship in Nairobi, commencing July 2026. This entry-level opportunity will support the Head of Delegation and Trade Section. The role involves diverse tasks, from analyzing Kenya's foreign policy and regional security to contributing to EU economic diplomacy and monitoring EU-Kenya trade agreements. Ideal candidates will possess a university degree in a relevant field, strong analytical and communication skills, and a keen interest in EU foreign policy, particularly concerning Africa. This traineeship offers significant professional and personal development within a dynamic international environment.

We offer Traineeships of 6 months in 2026 within the following sections of the EU Delegation,. The tentative start date is July 2026

Traineeship in the HoD/Trade Sections:

Main tasks:

  • Support the Head of Delegation and Deputy Head of Delegation in horizontal coordination of Delegation activities across all sectors (political affairs, press and information, economic affairs, development cooperation, administration, security)
  • Follow Kenya's relations with third countries and analyse Kenya's foreign policy objectives in the region
  • Monitor peace and security developments in the region and analyse Kenya's approach to addressing them
  • Participate in meetings, take notes and draft flash reports as requested
  • Support Head of Delegation and Deputy Head of Delegation in coordination of EU Member States Embassies meetings
  • Support the Head of Trade Section on EU Economic Diplomacy initiatives in co-ordination with Member States and private sector
  • Follow issues regarding the implementation of the EU-Kenya Partnership Agreement (EPA)
  • Follow other agreements pertaining to trade and investment
  • Monitor the situation and track the evolution of investment and trade flows, forecasts, investment policy and legislation, fiscal policy, tax system, financial services, etc. and their possible impact on the trade relations with the EU.
  • Follow up issues relating to access by EU exporters to Kenya’s market, and access of the Kenya exporters to the EU market
  • Fulfil other duties as required

Qualifications or special requirements:

  • Hold a university degree and have a proven interest in the field of international relations, political sciences, security, trade relations, journalism/media or other related subjects, with a particular focus on African affairs.
  • Have proven analytical, organizational, research and drafting skills.
  • Be a team player and good communicator.
  • Be hard working and see the internship as an opportunity for professional and personal development.
  • General knowledge of the EU foreign policy priorities with a particular focus on Africa is a major advantage.
  • Excellent command of written and spoken English.
