Job Title: Communications Intern - Nairobi (1 Position)
Reports to: Communication, Advocacy & Fundraising Coordinator
Job Location: Nairobi, Kenya with possible missions to field offices
Contract Details: 6-month Internship (renewable subject to performance and funding availability)
Job Duties and Responsibilities
Under the line management of the Communication, Advocacy & Fundraising Coordinator, the Communications Intern will support the implementation of communication, advocacy, and visibility activities. In particular, the intern will perform the following tasks:
1. Content Development & Digital Communication
- Support the creation of communication materials (articles, success stories, social media posts, newsletters, and infographics).
- Assist in managing the Kenya content calendar and LinkedIn page.
- Support implementation of digital campaigns aligned with project objectives.
- Assist in drafting website content in coordination with HQ Communications team.
2. Documentation & Media Support
- Support photo and video documentation in the field, ensuring proper consent procedures are followed.
- Organize and archive photos, videos, and communication materials on SharePoint in line with WeWorld guidelines.
- Prepare IEC and visibility materials for projects.
3. Advocacy & Events Support
- Support planning and implementation of awareness campaigns, workshops, and public events.
- Assist in documenting key project milestones, lessons learned, and best practices.
- Ensure brand compliance in all communication outputs.
4. Reporting & Coordination
- Assist in preparing internal communication reports and activity summaries.
- Support coordination with HQ communications focal points when required.
- Perform any other communication-related tasks assigned by the supervisor or country director.
Minimum Education, Qualifications & Experience Required
Education
- Recently completed a Diploma or Degree in Communications, Journalism, Public Relations, Advertising, or related field.
- Computer literacy (Microsoft Office, SharePoint, social media platforms).
Experience
- Previous internship or volunteer experience in communications, media, or NGOs is an added advantage.
- Experience in content creation, or social media management is desirable.
Technical Skills and Knowledge
- Strong written and verbal communication skills in English and Swahili.
- Basic graphic design skills (e.g., Canva or Adobe tools).
- Creativity and attention to detail.
- Strong organizational skills and ability to meet deadlines.
- Cultural sensitivity and ability to work in a multicultural environment.
- Basic photography and videography skills.
Desirable Qualifications
- Additional Experience
- Experience working with INGOs or community-based organizations.
- Interest in gender equality, child protection, and development communication.
