ECDE Vacancies at Kakamega County Government

Pursuant to the Constitution of Kenya (2010) and the County Governments Act No. 17 of 2012, the County Government of Kakamega invites applications from suitably qualified persons to fill the following vacant positions.

DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION, SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY

1) ASSISTANT ECDE TEACHER III, JOB GROUP CPSB 11/'H' - (65 POSTS)

Basic Salary: Kshs. 26,900×1,110 28,010x1,120 29,130x1,150 30,280×1,170 - 31,450x1,250 - 32,700x1,300-34,000×1,380-35,380p.m.
Terms of Service: Permanent and Pensionable

This is the entry grade for teachers with a Diploma Certificate in ECDE. A teacher at this level will work under the guidance of a more senior teacher for the purposes of professional mentoring and growth.

Duties and responsibilities will entail: -

a) Teach learners;
b) Be a role model, guide and counsel, mentor and motivate the learners;
c) Prepare reports;
d) Assure safety and security of the learners;
e) Identify learners with special needs and recommend necessary interventions;
f) Develop and facilitate play and learning activities and materials that will enable learners enjoy living and learning through play;
g) Prepare and develop schemes of work, lesson plans and daily programmes of activities, assessment and evaluation of learners' progress and keep professional records; and
h) Guide the learner to prepare and develop play and learning materials.

Requirements for Appointment

For appointment to this grade, a candidate must have:

a) Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) mean grade C (Plain), or its approved equivalent; OR Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) mean grade D+ (Plus), or its approved equivalent AND a Certificate in Early Childhood Development and Education (ECDE) offered by KNEC or Ministry of Education or its approved equivalent;
b) DIPLOMA in Early Childhood Development and Education offered by KNEC or its approved equivalent;
c) Be conversant with the Competency Based Curriculum (CBC) and other emerging learning trends;
d) Registered by the Teachers Service Commission (TSC); and
e) Certificate in Computer Applications.

2) ECDE ASSISTANT II, JOB GROUP CPSB 12/'G' - (20 POSTS)

Basic Salary: Kshs. 23,700x1,040 24,740x1,070 25,810x1,090 26,900x1,110 28,010x1,120 - 29,130x1,150-30,280×1,170-31,450p.m.
Terms of Service: Permanent and Pensionable

This is the entry grade for teachers with a Certificate in ECDE. A teacher at this level will work under the guidance of a more senior teacher for the purposes of professional mentoring and growth.

This will be the entry point for diploma holders. Duties and responsibilities at this level will entail:

a) Teach learners;
b) Be a role model, guide and counsel, mentor and motivate the learners;
c) Prepare reports;
d) Assure safety and security of the learners;
e) Design, organize and facilitate play and learning activities;
f) Care and nurture spiritual, moral, social, mental, physical, aesthetic and emotional growth of the learners (holistic development);
g) Manage ECDE classes and keep professional and administrative records (schemes of work, lesson plans, daily programme of activities, attendance registers and health records);
h) Prepare and develop play and learning materials;
i) Guide the learner to prepare and develop play and learning materials; and
j) Identify and nurture talent in learners.

Requirements for Appointment

For appointment to this grade, a candidate must have:

a) Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) mean grade D+ (Plus) or KCE Division IV at O' Level;
b) Certificate in Early Childhood Development and Education (ECDE) offered by KNEC or Ministry of Education or its approved equivalent;
c) Be conversant with the Competency Based Curriculum (CBC) and other emerging learning trends;
f) Registered by the Teachers Service Commission (TSC); and
g) Certificate in Computer Applications.
