Amnesty International Kenya seeks a Program Intern in Nairobi to support our human rights initiatives. You’ll provide crucial administrative, research, and logistical support, contributing to projects focused on social justice and governance. Responsibilities include desk research, event coordination, report preparation, and monitoring human rights trends. We need a recent graduate with strong communication, organizational, and tech skills, plus a demonstrated commitment to human rights.

JOB PURPOSE:ย 

The purpose of this internship is to provide administrative, research, and logistical support to human rights programs at Amnesty International Kenya. The successful candidate will work under the guidance of the Head of Programmes to support a broad portfolio of human rights work, ensuring the efficient delivery of programs and projects related to social justice, governance, and the protection of fundamental freedoms.

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES:

The Program Intern will:

  • Support in conducting desk research and literature reviews on various human rights issues to support policy briefs and campaign strategies.
  • Monitor national news and human rights trends to provide timely updates to the program teams.
  • Assist in the preparation and formatting of project reports, activity summaries, and donor updates.
  • Support the coordination of logistics for workshops, training sessions, and public activities.
  • Support in designing imaginative and authoritative knowledge products on human rights topics.
  • Provide administrative support during field missions and community activities.
  • Support with scheduling, calendar management, and preparation for high-level meetings.

EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS:

ESSENTIAL

  • Commitment to Amnesty values and objectives.
  • A recent graduate in Human Rights, Law, Social Sciences, International Relations, or a related field.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English and Kiswahili.
  • Strong organizational and administrative skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office365 Suite and digital collaboration tools.
  • Strong attention to detail and a proactive approach to problem-solving.
  • Ability to work effectively within a diverse, multi-cultural team environment.

DESIRABLE

  • Previous experience volunteering or interning in an NGO or human rights context.
  • Basic understanding of the Kenyan human rights landscape and the functions of civil society.
