The Council of Governors is hiring an Education Committee Intern in Kenya. You will support the committee's workplan, research education policies, and assist in coordinating efforts on early childhood development and vocational training. The Council of Governors is established under Section 19 of the Intergovernmental Relations Act 2012 to carry out the following mandates;
- Consultations amongst County Governments;
- Sharing of information on the performance of the counties in the execution of their functions with the objective of learning and promotion of best practice, and where necessary, initiating preventive or corrective action;
- Considering matters of common interest to Counties;
- Dispute resolution between Counties
- Facilitating capacity building for Governors;
- Receiving reports and monitoring the implementation of inter –county agreements on inter-county projects
- Considering matters referred to the Council by a member of the public; and
- Consideration of reports from inter-governmental forums on matters affecting National and County interests or relating to the performance of counties.
To better execute its mandate, the Council of Governors is established across various sectoral working Committees and Departments.
Internship Opportunity in the Education Committee
To enable the Council to achieve its mandate and vision, the Council wishes to recruit an Intern to support the Education Committee at the Council.
SCOPE OF ASSIGNMENT
Support the Education Committee in implementing the committee workplan, monitoring emerging trends and best practices, and providing technical support to Counties with respect to early childhood development, pre-primary education, vocational training, skills development, and children matters.
The specific duties and responsibilities will include:
- Assist in the implementation of the Education Committee workplan.
- Analysis, review and monitoring of all policies and legislation at National and County levels relating to the Education Committee.
- Conduct research work, analysis of documents and preparation of position papers, policy briefs, and success stories in the Education Committee.
- Assist in the coordination and harmonization of the Council’s positions and priorities on sectoral matters.
- Assist in handling and monitoring children mainstreaming across the committees within the Council.
- Assist in data and knowledge management within the Committee.
- Ensuring that all committee reports are written and submitted within the required timelines and
- Support intra- and inter-agency and governmental consultations on sectoral issues.
- Support in the engagement and coordination of the various Caucuses within the Committee.
- Perform any other duties as assigned by the supervisor.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Degree in Education, Social Sciences, Public Administration or other related degree.
- Experience in documentation and report writing for technical meetings.
- Knowledge and understanding of government-related processes, especially within the context of Devolution.
- Outstanding Interpersonal, analytical, and communication skills.
- Ability to follow deadlines, accuracy, and attention to detail.
- A high level of computer literacy and proficiency in written and spoken English and Kiswahili.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
SUPERVISION
The intern will work within the education committee and will be supervised by and reporting to the Sector Lead of the Committee.
DURATION
The internship will be for a duration of six (6) months with possible extension for another six months owing to performance of the intern and availability of funds.
