Developing the Next Generation of Coffee Industry Leaders

The NextGen Coffee Leaders Programme stands as a flagship scholarship initiative from the Java House Foundation, delivered in partnership with Dedan Kimathi University of Technology (DeKUT). Launched in May 2026, this transformative programme is designed to identify, train, and empower young Kenyans who are passionate about the coffee value chain. It offers a unique blend of technical education, hands-on experience, mentorship, and leadership coaching to prepare participants for meaningful and sustainable careers in the rapidly evolving global coffee sector.

Why This Initiative Is Vital for Kenya’s Coffee Sector

Coffee is more than a crop in Kenya—it is a cultural heritage and a critical pillar of the national economy. As global market dynamics shift and consumer expectations rise, the industry faces an urgent need for skilled, innovative, and forward-thinking professionals who can sustain its legacy while driving future growth.

In response to this pressing demand, the Java House Foundation, together with Dedan Kimathi University of Technology (DeKUT), has established the NextGen Coffee Leaders Scholarship Programme. A total of 35 young individuals will benefit from this opportunity:

  • 20 scholars will pursue a Diploma in Coffee Technology and Cupping
  • 15 scholars will undertake a Certificate in Coffee Technology and Quality Management

Each recipient receives a full tuition scholarship along with a monthly stipend, allowing them to dedicate their full attention to skill acquisition and professional growth without financial distraction.
