Job Objective
To empower teachers and learners with hearing impairments in the acquisition of computer skills. This will include but not limited to Keyboard & typing skills, productivity tools (Word/Google docs, Excel/ Google sheets, and Presentation tools), the Internet, and accessibility for the deaf.
The job holder will offer computer training to the special needs students and their teachers using assistive technology software, evaluate the learners, empower/ mentor the students, and manage classroom dynamics.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
- Oversee the daily operations of the program, ensuring that all equipment and systems are functioning properly.
- Maintain all ICT equipment including both hardware and software to ensure optimum performance.
- Support teachers and students in incorporating ICT into their teaching and learning processes.
- Ensure all hearing-impaired learners can appreciate assistive technology and the opportunities available.
- Provide basic and advanced computer skills training, including common software packages, internet usage, and assistive technology tools.
- Mentor and counsel young learners to enhance their confidence, self-esteem, and academic abilities.
- Observe and manage classroom dynamics to maintain a productive and inclusive learning environment.
- Evaluate students/ teachers progress and performance, offering constructive feedback to help them improve.
- Communicate regularly with the program manager to provide updates on the program.
- Assist in creating social media content, including stories and blogs, in collaboration with the communication department.
- Provide students with digital learning resources, ensuring access to relevant materials and tools for their development.
- Participate in the preparation, administration, and marking of computer-related examinations.
- Collaborate with fellow team members and station leads to ensure a cohesive and effective educational environment.
- Attend all daily program meetings, contributing valuable insights and updates.
- Manage and secure the organization’s documents and data locally and on the cloud, ensuring privacy and data protection.
Qualifications:
- At least a Diploma in ICT / or its equivalent.
- Knowledge of assistive technologies and accessibility best practices.
- 2 years of proven experience in computer instruction or training (Teaching experience is an added advantage)
- Proficiency in Kenya sign language.
