Research Assistant

The Kenya Medical Research Institute (KEMRI) is a state corporation established through the Science and Technology (Amendment) Act of 1979, which has since been amended to Science, Technology and Innovation Act 2013 as the national body responsible for carrying out health research in Kenya.

Research Assistant – Kajiado County

Key Responsibilities:

• Work closely with colleagues and study coordinator to deliver research activities.
• Collect quantitative and qualitative data from a variety of sources.
• Assist with data quality checks and data management.
• Prepare individual work progress reports.
• Comply with policies on ethical conduct of research and human subjects’ protection.
• Carry out any other duties commensurate with experience, which may be assigned from time to time.

Vacancy Requirements:

Mandatory

• Bachelor’s Degree in any of the following disciplines: – Applied Sciences, Public Health, Social Science, or equivalent qualifications from a recognized institution.
• At least two (2) years post-graduate work experience in a relevant research-related position.
• Competency in using Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
• Ability and willingness to work anywhere in Kajiado County.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work independently and effectively.
• Ability to interact with study participants in a culturally sensitive manner.
• Well-developed troubleshooting capacity and clarity of thought.
• Strong organization skills to meet tight deadlines.
• Team player

Preferred

• Fluency in English, Kiswahili, required. Maasai Language is an added advantage.
• Experience in qualitative research methods is an added advantage.
• Experience with management and processing of qualitative data is an added advantage
• Familiarity with electronic data collection tools is an added advantage.
