Youth in Engineering Program

Fireside Foundation is inviting applicants for intake to the Fireside Youth in Engineering program. This is a 6-month program combining both theory and field experience.

Fireside Youth In Engineering, powered by Fireside Foundation, is an extension of Fireside Group’s mission of supporting the communities in which we live and work.

With every project, we ask the same question: what’s our impact on the community?

From designing telecommunication towers in remote areas to wiring hospitals with high speed internet connectivity, we take to heart our role in making the world a better, smarter, safer place.

History and Philosophy

FYIE started in Kenya in 2019 as the Fireside Women in Engineering and exclusively targeted young women from disadvantaged areas.

Initially, it operated from Fireside Group headquarters along Lower Kabete Road in Nairobi, with the first intake of girls from Marsabit, Isiolo, Lamu, Taita Taveta, Baringo and a refugee going on to complete an intensive one year on-the- job training.

It has since been expanded to take in young men in a conscious effort to provide equal opportunities in community development.

FYIE’s philosophy is to expose its trainees to a rich curriculum that will build capacity, impart skills, and train future engineers in intelligent infrastructure in line with the development in global telecommunications.

Long-term Perspective

This project will also play a part in ending the vicious cycle of poverty among the target communities by giving the trainees a long-term future perspective.

Program Requirements

• Aged between 25 – 29 years.
• Have attained a Certificate/Diploma in Electrical/Civil/Mechanical & Telecommunications Engineering.
• Diploma/Bachelor’s degree in Planning, Geographic Information System (GIS), and Geomatic Engineering.
• Bachelor’s Degree in Environmental Science, or related course.
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, Statistics, or Economics.
• Be committed to complete 6 months of intense theory and practic al training.
• Possess a strong analytical aptitude and interested in a career in technology and engineering.
• Show attention to detail.
• Have good understanding of the English language.
• Be interested in continuous learning.
• Be creative and innovative.
• Possess good problem-solving skills.
• Possess good problem-solving skills.
• Be a team player.
