ABOUT AMDA

The Africa Minigrid Developers Association (AMDA) The Africa Minigrid Developer Association (“AMDA”) is an industry association created by private sector minigrid developers and operators, development partners and investors interested in improving political and financial environments for minigrid companies in Africa. AMDA serves as the consolidated voice for minigrid developers in a bid to accelerate their pathway to scale and sustainability to support the achievement of universal access to sustainable, reliable, affordable, and modern energy in Africa. As of April 2025, we have 58 members in 24 countries across 5 regions in Africa. Our cardinal pillars are:

  1. Deliver Member Value: We support minigrid developers to become sustainable businesses with strong corporate governance.
  2. Access to Capital: We enhance the capital raising capabilities of minigrid developers and facilitate dialogue with funders and investors to attract deeper pools of capital in the minigrid sector
  3. Policy, Regulatory & Regional Coordination: We engage with policymakers, regulators, and government stakeholders through effective communication, dialogue, and advocacy campaigns to ensure an enabling environment for the sustainable development of minigrids at scale. Through our regional coordinators, we provide on-the-ground support to developers in the various regions (presently East Africa, Francophone Afrique, West Africa, and Southern Africa) we cover.
  4. Research, Data & Standards: We serve as the reference point and source of reliable data & information on the private sector minigrids in Africa to support evidence-based decision making. We also work to standardize the sector to promote sustainable development of minigrids at scale.

JOB DESCRIPTION

The Africa Minigrid Developers Association (AMDA) is seeking an Access to Capital Intern to support their organization in enhancing the capital raising capabilities of minigrid developers and facilitate dialogue with funders and investors to attract deeper pools of capital in the minigrid sector. The Access to Capital Intern role will be based in Nairobi.

WHAT YOU WILL MAKE HAPPEN

● Conduct market research to identify funding opportunities for minigrids
● Support in identifying and establishing strong relationships with private minigrid investors, development partners, and financial institutions
● Support in organizing finance workshops aimed at broadening members’ knowledge and understanding of minigrid financing
● Support in conducting data collection, analysis, and presentation
● Assist in advocating for favorable economic and financial policies in the minigrid sector.
● Support in drafting articles and position papers advocating for investment in the minigrid sector.

WHAT YOU ALREADY HAVE

● Bachelor’s degree in Economics, Finance, or a business-related field
● Strong data analytical, financial modeling, and market research skills
● Ability to work independently and in a team-oriented environment
● Proficiency with advanced Excel and other analysis software
● Strong problem-solving and critical thinking skills
● Proficiency in French or Portuguese is an added advantage

WHAT WOULD GIVE YOU ADDED ADVANTAGE

● Bi- or multi-lingual proficiency (French, Portuguese)
● Basic knowledge in infrastructure investments (project/corporate finance, grants, equity, debt
