JKUAT Enterprises Ltd (JKUATES) is a state corporation owned by JKUAT that creates and commercializes quality solutions and products through research, consulting, training, and innovation to transform individuals and institutions in Africa and beyond.

The role focuses on crop research and development, including data collection and analysis, seed production and trials, nursery establishment, and crop promotion. It also involves producing in-vitro plants through aeroponics and tissue culture, maintaining aseptic conditions, and ensuring proper planting, harvesting, and storage of mini-tubers.

Job Specification

An officer at this level will be assigned specific duties in the area of specialization and will work under supervision of an expert in agronomy.

Responsibilities

The duties and responsibilities will entail:

• Collecting metrological data and monitor weather changes;
• Establishing nurseries;
• Compiling data on crop research programmes;
• Carrying out basic seed, breeder’s seed and pre-basic seed bulking and production for seed maize, seed potatoes and bean seeds; and
• Carry out trials on different seed maize varieties and chemical efficacy test in seed maize production, seed potatoes, citrus and coffee;
• Analyzing and interpreting research data;
• Undertaking research in the development and promotion of crops
• Data collection, analysis, interpretation and report writing;
• Producing invitro plants for aeroponics and tissue culture;
• Undertaking media preparation and sub-culturing of invitros;
• Maintaining aeroponic unit potatoes and aseptic conditions;
• Ensuring timely planting, harvesting and storage of mini-tubers harvested in the aeroponics.

Person Specifications

For appointment to this grade, a candidate must have:

1. Bachelors degree in Agriculture Biotechnology from a recognized institution and
2. Certificate in computer application skills.
