Fundraising Intern Position
Unit of Service: Quality Assurance and Resource Mobilization
Duty Station: Nakuru – Kenya
Reports To: Team Leader, Quality Assurance and Resource Mobilization
Duration: 3 Months
Purpose of the Job:
The Fundraising Intern will be a member of the Business Development Unit and be part of the team that aims to strengthen Kilimo Trust Fundraising and Business Development functions in line with Kilimo Trust’s partnership and resource mobilization strategy that aims at generating sustainable resources for Kilimo Trust to deliver its mandate.
The Fundraising Intern will be provided with an opportunity to build strategic partnerships and provide technical assistance in identifying and responding to funding opportunities by working with other team members to design, draft, and submit expressions of interest, Concept Notes, and Full proposals to raise at least US$10million annually and contribute to making Kilimo Trust a sustainable organization.
The Intern will be coached and mentored to be able to contribute to the establishment of a robust and diversified project pipeline that aligns with Kilimo Trust’s fundraising strategy, which aims to have 80% of the organization’s funding sourced from donor projects and 20% sourced from alternative sources.
Responsibilities
- Learn and be able to develop a comprehensive organization-wide resource mobilization plan and materials aligned to Kilimo Trust’s purpose and values.
- Assist in carrying out regular scouting for opportunities within Kilimo Trust subscribed institutions, portals, and websites from where the organization can find and respond to project and funding opportunities.
- Work together with other team members to identify and develop business opportunities for Kilimo Trust to develop into funded projects.
- Working with the business development team, participate in writing of Expression of Interests (EoIs), Concept Notes (CNs), and proposals.
- Assist in producing and disseminating a pitching deck, brochures, and other fundraising promotional materials in collaboration with the Kilimo Trust Communication team to increase the competitiveness of Kilimo Trust to win more projects.
- Review and update the Kilimo Trust Fundraising plan and develop a robust project pipeline using appropriate tools.
- Assist in conducting stakeholder mapping by identifying and categorizing key regional and international partners relevant to Kilimo Trust- mapping out their level of influence, interests, and importance to prioritize engagement efforts.
Educational Qualifications and Experience Required
- A university degree in a relevant field is required, preferably in Agricultural Economics, Fundraising and Business Development, Business Administration, Marketing, or a related discipline.
- Previous interest in community charitable work is desired but not a must
- A good writer and lover of analytics with the power to conceptualize a developmental challenge and convert it to a funded project
- Great potential in developing partnerships with corporations and/or public sector Organizations
- Some knowledge and experience of the not-for-profit sector, preferably of the Agriculture and Agribusiness sectors in East Africa.
- Ability to fit into cross-cultural and multidisciplinary teams.
Technical & Behavioural Competence Requirements:
- Basic knowledge of fundraising principles and donor engagement
- Proposal and report writing skills
- Research and analytical skills
- Ability to work effectively with colleagues and support collective goals.
- Result-oriented.
