Vacancy Description
National Environment Management Authority is seeking dynamic and dedicated Environmental Ecosystems Officers to champion the robust stewardship of Kenya’s vital aquatic environments. This critical, permanent role requires a driven professional to actively monitor freshwater, coastal, and marine ecosystems. Successful candidates will be instrumental in developing national inventories, implementing the Integrated Coastal Zone Management Plan, and collaborating with diverse stakeholders to safeguard these precious natural resources for future generations.
The National Environment Management Authority (NEMA), established under the Environmental Management and Coordination Act (EMCA) Cap 387 is mandated to exercise general supervision and coordination over all matters relating to the environment in Kenya; and to be the Principal Instrument of Government in the implementation of all policies relating to the environment.
The Authority invites applications from qualified and experienced candidates for the following vacant positions.
Environmental Ecosystems Officers
Job Responsibilities
- Monitoring the state of inland freshwater, coastal and marine resources on a regular basis;
- Taking inventory of aquatic ecosystems to assist in their proper management, identifying appropriate measures to prevent or minimize pollution;
- Collecting and collating information for development of management plans;
- Liaising with lead agencies, the private sector, NGOs and communities on wetland conservation and management activities;
- Developing national wetlands inventory;
- Implementing national Integrated Coastal Zone Management (ICZM) Plan and ICZM Policy;
- Implementing relevant Multilateral Environmental Agreements (MEAs).
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in any of the following disciplines; Aquatic Ecology (fresh water), Wetlands Management, Environmental Science, Natural Resource Management, Aquatic Engineering, Coastal and Marine resources management, Marine Ecology, Marine Management, Marine Spatial Planning, Oceanography or any other relevant field from a recognized institution
- Proficiency in computer applications
