DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC SERVICE & COUNTY ADMINISTRATION
1) FIRE OFFICER II, JOB GROUP CPSB 09/’K’ – (3 POSTS)
Basic Salary: Kshs. 39,700 x 1,470 41,170 x 1,520 42,690 x 1,710-44,400 x 1920 – 46,320 x 2,000-48,320 x 2,290-50,610 x 2,350-52,960p.m.
Terms of Service: Permanent and Pensionable
Duties and Responsibilities
This is the entry and training grade for this cadre. An officer at this level will work under the guidance of a senior officer. Specific duties and responsibilities will include: –
a) Preparation of drawings for siting of fire appliances;
b) Inspection of buildings for assessing fire hazards and risks;
c) Ensuring availability of emergency exits and adequacy of means of escape in public buildings; and
d) Repair and maintenance of fire-fighting equipment.
Requirement for Appointment
For appointment to this grade, a candidate must have: –
a) A Bachelors Degree in any of the following disciplines: Electrical/Mechanical/Chemical/Mechatronics Engineering or its equivalent qualification from a recognized institution; and
b) Be registered by Engineers Registration Board of Kenya as a Graduate Engineer.
2) INSPECTOR (FIRE SERVICES), JOB GROUP CPSB 11/’H’ – (3 POSTS)
Basic Salary: Kshs. 26,900 x 1,110 28,010 x 1,120 29,130 x 1,150 30,280 x 1,170 -31,450 x 1,250-32,700 x 1,300-34,000 x 1,380 – 35,380p.m.

Duties and Responsibilities
This is the entry and training grade for this cadre. An officer at this level will work under the guidance of a Senior Officer. Duties and responsibilities will entail: –

i Inspection, repair and maintenance of fire installations in public buildings, hospitals and institutions;
ii Ensure buildings adhere to local, and national fire codes Ensuring buildings adhere to local, state, and national fire codes;
iii Evaluating fire sprinklers, extinguishers, and suppression systems;
iv Determining the origin and cause of fires;
v Preparing detailed reports on violations and required corrections; and
vi Providing training on fire safety and prevention to the public.
Requirement for Appointment
For appointment to this grade, a candidate must have: –
i Diploma in Mechanical/Electrical/Chemical Engineering or equivalent and relevant qualification from a recognized institution; and
ii First Aid Certificate course lasting not less than one (1) week from St. John’s Ambulance or Kenya Institute of Highways and Building Technology (KIHBT) or any other recognized institution.
3) FIREMAN III, JOB GROUP CPSB 14/’E’ – (6 POSTS)
Basic Scale: Kshs. 18,000 x 580 – 18,580 x 640 – 19,220 x 680 – 19,900p.m.
Terms of Service: Permanent and Pensionable
This is the entry and training grade for this cadre. An officer at this level will be on-the-job training and will work under the supervision of an experienced officer.
Duties and Responsibilities: –
i Simple maintenance of fire-fighting appliances;
ii Assisting during emergency cases;
iii Response to vehicle extrication, mitigation of hazardous material, confined space rescue;
iv Recue people endangered by fire; and
V Provide basic life support activities.
Requirement for appointment
For appointment to this grade, a candidate must have: –
i. Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education mean Grade ‘D’ or its equivalent and relevant qualification;
ii, Fireman II Certificate from a recognized Fire Services Training School/ Institution from a recognized Fire Services Training School/Institution;
iii, First Aid Certificate course lasting not less than one (1) week from St. John’s Ambulance or Kenya Institute of Highways and Building Technology (KIHBT) or any other recognized institution;
iv, Be physically fit; and
v, Be certified medically fit by a Government doctor.
