About Youth for SDGs Kenya

Youth for Sustainable Development Goals Kenya (Y4SDGsKE) is a youth-led civil society organisation dedicated to amplifying the voices of young Kenyans in national and global sustainability governance. Founded to bridge the gap between youth civic energy and formal SDG implementation architecture, Y4SDGSKE connects over 240 network members across Kenya's counties, engaging at national and continental levels. Our grassroots architecture has enabled tangible and sustainable transformation at the lowest community levels.

Guided by a vision of a vibrant, informed, and passionate youth constituency continuously engaged in sustainable development, Y4SDGSKE works across:

  • SDG Governance
  • Climate Justice
  • Green Growth
  • Youth Peace and Security
  • Gender Equality
  • Economic Empowerment
  • Governance and Leadership

Through structured advocacy, evidence generation, storytelling, and multi-stakeholder partnerships, we transform young people from passive beneficiaries into active architects of sustainable development.

Role Overview

We are seeking a passionate and creative Graphic Designer to join our Communications Team as an intern or volunteer. You will help shape how Y4SDGsKE tells its story, visually communicating our mission to audiences across digital platforms, advocacy events, and policy spaces. This is a hands-on opportunity to grow your portfolio while contributing to work that genuinely matters.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design engaging graphics for social media (Instagram, X/Twitter, LinkedIn, Facebook) aligned with our campaigns, events, and advocacy work.
  • Create visual content for reports, briefs, newsletters, flyers, and presentations.
  • Develop branded materials for events such as Youth SDG Week, youth dialogues, county-level engagements, and partner convenings.
  • Produce infographics that communicate SDG data, project updates, and policy messages in accessible, youth-friendly formats.
  • Collaborate with the communications team to maintain a consistent visual identity across all platforms and counties.
  • Contribute creative ideas for multimedia content including short videos, motion graphics, or social media reels where relevant
  • Support storytelling and evidence communication for flagship projects and thematic programmes.

What We're Looking For

  • A young person (18-35 years) with a passion for sustainable development, youth empowerment, or social impact.
  • Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite (Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign) and/or Canva
  • A strong eye for layout, typography, colour, and visual storytelling.
  • Solid understanding of social media content best practices.
  • Ability to work independently, meet deadlines, and take constructive feedback.
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills.
  • Knowledge of or interest in the SDGs, climate justice, or governance is an added advantage.

What You'll Gain

  • Hands-on communications experience within a recognised national youth-led civil society organisation.
  • Exposure to national and continental advocacy, SDG review processes, and multi-stakeholder partnerships.
  • Portfolio pieces across real campaigns, advocacy materials, and programme communications
  • A certificate of internship/volunteering upon successful completion.
  • Mentorship, professional development, and access to a growing network of over 240 youth changemakers across Kenya and Africa.

Duration & Commitment

Flexible, minimum 6 months, with an expectation of approximately 10-15 hours per week. Remote-friendly, with occasional in-person engagements in Nairobi and county-level activities.
