The National Legal Aid Service (NLAS) is a State Agency established under the Legal Aid Act Cap. 16A, Laws of Kenya.
NLAS is governed by a Board of Directors comprising representatives from both State and non-state actors and a Secretariat headed by a Chief Executive Officer with a mandate to administer a national legal aid scheme that is affordable, accessible, sustainable, credible, appropriate, accountable, transparent and efficient. In this regard, NLAS performs the following functions, amongst others;
- Provide legal aid services to marginalized, vulnerable, and indigent, persons;
- Promote legal literacy and legal awareness;
- Support community legal services by funding justice advisory centres, education, and research; and
- Promote the use of alternative dispute resolution methods that enhance access to justice.
The Board invites applications from interested and qualified Kenyan Citizens to fill the following positions:

Remuneration will be in accordance with NLAS Salary Scale;
Salary Scale: Ksh. 41,705 x 2,318 – 44,023 x 2,318-46,341 x 2,318 – 48,659 x 2,318 – 50,977 x 2,318 – 53,295 x 2,318 – 55,613 x 2,320-57,933 p.m.
Qualifications.
For appointments to this grade, a candidate must have;
- Have a Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education mean grade C plain;
- Have Diploma in legal studies from a recognized institution;
- Certificate in Records management; and
- Certificate in Computer Application skills.
Duties and Responsibilities.
Duties and responsibilities at this level will entails;
- Filling Contracts and court documents;
- Serving legal documents to clients and other stakeholders;
- Maintaining an up-to-date court file registry to ensure the safe custody of the files:
- Responding to inquiries regarding specific cases;
- Bringing up files to the relevant officer for briefing and action;
- Preparing accurate quarterly reports on cases where actions have been taken;
- Receiving, compiling and organizing information for the preparation of pleadings with necessary annexure; and
- Maintaining and updating court case diary.
