PSC invites applications for Metallurgists in the Ministry of Mining, Blue Economy and Maritime Affairs, State Department for Mining.
Requirements
For appointment to this grade, an officer must have:
(i) a Bachelors degree in Mining and Mineral Processing, Analytical Chemistry or Chemical Engineering from a university recognized in Kenya;
(ii) professional registration with a relevant engineering body (e.g. Engineers Registration Board); and
(iii) Proficiency in computer-aided design (CAD) and metallurgical software, as well as data analysis.
Duties and Responsibilities
This is an entry and training grade for this cadre. An officer at will work under the guidance and supervision of a senior officer. Duties and responsibilities will include:
(i) ensuring metal components meet engineering specifications (tensile strength, hardness, toughness);
(ii) investigating root causes of metal failure, corrosion, or fatigue in machinery and infrastructure;
(iii) monitoring and improving extractive metallurgy processes (pyro metallurgy/ hydrometallurgy) and heat treatment procedures;
(iv) preparing detailed reports on experimental results, material properties, and recommendations for material selection; and
(v) mentoring or supervising laboratory technicians and junior metallurgists.
Contract Details
Basic Salary Scale: Ksh 45,210 – Ksh 61,020 p.m. (CSG 10)
House Allowance: Ksh 9600 – Ksh 16,500 p.m
Commuter Allowance: Ksh 5,000 p.m.
Leave Allowance: As provided in the Civil Service
Annual Leave: 30 working days
Medical Cover: As provided by the Government
Terms of Service: Permanent and Pensionable
