PSC invites applications for Social Development Officers in the Ministry of Mining, Blue Economy and Maritime Affairs, State Department for Mining.
Requirements
For appointment to this grade, a candidate must have a Bachelors Degree in any of the following disciplines: - Sociology, Anthropology, Social Work, Psychology, Community Development, Project Development/Management, Disability Studies, Counselling, Gender Studies, Gender and Development or Business Administration/Management from a university recognized in Kenya.
Duties and Responsibilities
This is an entry and training grade for this cadre. An officer at will work under the guidance and supervision of a senior officer. Duties and responsibilities will include:
(i) working with communities to identify and mobilize local resources for the implementation of development projects and Community Development Agreements (CDAs);
(ii) guiding communities and stakeholders to develop Community Development Agreements (CDAs);
(iii) supporting mining officers in community engagement on mineral beneficiation.
(iv) liaising with local communities, artisanal miners, and other development agencies in Environmental Social Governance (ESG);
(v) supporting and facilitating artisanal miners to organize into formal groups, associations, or cooperatives for registration under the Mining Act;
(vi) conducting sensitization for artisanal miners and stakeholders on sustainable mining practices, legal requirements, grievance handling, and the elimination of child labour;
(vii) collecting sex, age, and disability-disaggregated data for all social development and mining community programs; and
(viii) collecting and managing social development-related data for planning;
Contract Details
Basic Salary Scale: Ksh 38,210 – Ksh 49,910 p.m. (CSG 11)
House Allowance: Ksh 5,800 p.m. Ksh 10,000 p.m
Commuter Allowance: Ksh 4,000 p.m.
Leave Allowance: As provided in the Civil Service
Annual Leave: 30 working days
Medical Cover: As provided by the Government
Terms of Service: Permanent and Pensionable
