Abt Global Central Mechanism is hiring Warehouse Assistants (REF: WA/001/2026) in Busia and Siaya Counties.
With funding from the Unites States (US) Department of State, the Abt Global Central Mechanism supports malaria vector control and HIV/AIDS service delivery in 14 partner countries, with the goal of improving health outcomes for target populations while strengthening the planning, data management, and implementation capacity of host-country governments and local institutions. The project sustains uninterrupted malaria vector control interventions, including insecticide-treated net (ITN) distribution, indoor residual spraying (IRS), and spatial emanators (SEs), as well as HIV prevention, testing, and treatment services. Across partner countries, the project identifies opportunities to align and transition vector control data collection to national Health Management Information System (HMIS)/DHIS2 platforms. It also strengthens HIV laboratory referral and quality management systems and supports entomological and insecticide-resistance surveillance, including monitoring for Anopheles stephensi, in priority countries. In collaboration with government counterparts, the project identifies functions for transition and provides support to advance government memorandum of understanding (MOU) objectives
In close collaboration with the National Malaria Control Program (NMCP), and the county governments of Busia and Siaya, Abt Global Central Mechanism seeks to recruit professionals in different fields to support in implementation of Indoor Residual Spraying (IRS) in all the eight sub-counties in Busia County namely; Bunyala, Butula, Matayos, Nambale, Samia, Teso North, Teso Central and Teso South; and all six sub-counties in Siaya county namely; Alego Usonga, Bondo, Gem, Rarieda, Ugenya and Ugunja.

Overall, Purpose:
Under supervision of warehouse manager, assist in the management, receipt, delivery, and inventory control of project items in and out of the project’s warehouse. They support in ensuring all stores’ inventory management tools are updated as necessary and appropriately.
Specific responsibilities
- To assist in overseeing daily operations of warehouse and maintain proper inventory records and optimum inventory levels.
- To ensure proper storage, labelling and identification of all items in the Warehouse.
- To inspect and verify commodities received in the warehouse for conformity in quality and quantity.
- To keep track of receipts, issues records and withdrawals of all IRS related commodities in the Warehouse in coordination with Warehouse Manager.
- Updating of Stock cards and Ledger books in warehouse promptly upon dispatch.
- Follow up on supply requests from operations sites and liaise with the Warehouse Manager for approvals.
- Assist in preparation of necessary delivery and Receipt documentation such as Delivery notes and GRNs.
Assist warehouse manager to ensure proper material and equipment storage and issuance to avoid damages and ensure stock rotation by practicing FIFO to prevent materials expiry and obsolescence.
- Ensuring the warehouse is clean and safe.
- Perform any other duty assigned by the Warehouse Manager.
Required qualifications and Experience:
- Diploma in purchasing and supplies management or any other relevant field.
- At least 6 months’ experience working as a storekeeper or store assistant is desired.
- A certificate of good conduct may be required.
- Membership of a recognized Professional Body is an added advantage.
Knowledge Skills and Abilities:
- Good communication skills including spoken and written English and Kiswahili, Additional professional training in procurement, logistics management or related field preferred.
- Knowledge of U.S. Department of State procurement policies and regulations a plus.
- Excellent knowledge of Microsoft Office and procurement software.
- Ability to build effective relationships with all clients, peers, and stakeholders.
- Culturally astute, respectful, and tolerant
- Strong organizational and interpersonal skills and ability to work in a team-oriented setting.
- Attention to details and ability to work under pressure and tight deadlines.
Desirable
- Ability to work with minimal supervision.
- Physically fit, ability to stand long hours and lift items.
- Willingness to work for 6 days in a week (Monday to Saturday).
- Strong organizational and interpersonal skills and ability to work in a team-oriented setting.
NB: This position involves a worker coming into close contact with insecticides on a daily basis and will therefore require a medical examination including general body examination and pregnancy tests. Those with certain medical conditions like chest problems, asthmatic etc. or are expectant mothers are advised to apply for alternative roles they qualify for.
NB: These positions will be on a short-term contract, not exceeding two (2) months, and/or on a need basis.
