Abt Global Central Mechanism are hiring 65 Storekeepers (REF: S/001/2026) in Busia and Siaya Counties

With funding from the Unites States (US) Department of State, the Abt Global Central Mechanism supports malaria vector control and HIV/AIDS service delivery in 14 partner countries, with the goal of improving health outcomes for target populations while strengthening the planning, data management, and implementation capacity of host-country governments and local institutions.

The project sustains uninterrupted malaria vector control interventions, including insecticide-treated net (ITN) distribution, indoor residual spraying (IRS), and spatial emanators (SEs), as well as HIV prevention, testing, and treatment services.

Across partner countries, the project identifies opportunities to align and transition vector control data collection to national Health Management Information System (HMIS)/DHIS2 platforms. It also strengthens HIV laboratory referral and quality management systems and supports entomological and insecticide-resistance surveillance, including monitoring for Anopheles stephensi, in priority countries.

In close collaboration with the National Malaria Control Program (NMCP), and the county governments of Busia and Siaya, Abt Global Central Mechanism seeks to recruit professionals in different fields to support in implementation of Indoor Residual Spraying (IRS) in all the eight  sub-counties in Busia County namely; Bunyala, Butula, Matayos, Nambale, Samia, Teso North, Teso Central and Teso South; and all six sub-counties in Siaya county namely; Alego Usonga, Bondo, Gem,  Rarieda, Ugenya and Ugunja.

Overall, Purpose:

Under the supervision of the Warehouse Manager, the storekeeper ensures efficient management of IRS items by receiving, verification, storage, labeling and tracking of IRS commodities delivered to their respective stores from the Central Warehouse. They are responsible for ensuring all stores’ inventory management tools are updated as necessary and appropriately. They are responsible for accounting for all IRS commodities in the operations site stores throughout the campaign period.

Specific responsibilities

  • Receive IRS commodities from central warehouse, verify and fill in relevant stock management documents for accountability purposes.
  • Responsible for monitoring stock levels and liaising with Warehouse team for replenishments through placement of orders using digitized requisition.
  • To keep track of receipts, records, and withdrawals of all IRS related commodities in the operations site store as trained.
  • They are responsible for enforcing safety culture in the stores by ensuring all safety procedures regarding storage and handling of insecticide and other contaminated materials are adhered to.
  • Conduct stock takes/audits to verify inventory stock levels and ensure accuracy of stock and report stock discrepancies to Warehouse manager in writing.
  • Responsible for ensuring that the store is secure with measures taken to prevent theft, damage, and unauthorized access to the store.
  • To oversee daily operations of the store and maintain inventory system at proper levels.
  • To ensure proper storage and identification of all items in the store.
  • Making requisitions for IRS items from warehouse. Follow up on supply requests from Warehouse and liaise with the Warehouse Manager to monitor progress.
  • Ensure all insecticides units are serialized as required before issuance.
  • Ensure all insecticide units are scanned when issuing to the team leaders and that team leaders are recording issuance to the spray operators.
  • To inspect commodities received in the Operations site store to verify the quality and quantity of items delivered.
  • Coordinate with the security guard on tracking the movement of persons in the stores.
  • Ensure proper material and equipment storage to avoid damage and ensure rotation of short shelf-life items.
  • Ensure proper storage, segregation and accountability of IRS wastes prior to collection.
  • Document any incident that occurs in the store and share with the IRS coordinator.
  • Cooperate with project and IRS supervisors during campaign and respond to their enquiries as necessary.
  • Perform any other duty assigned by the supervisor.

Required qualifications and Experience:

  • Diploma in purchasing and supplies Management, Business Management and IT or other relevant field.
  • At least 6 months' experience working as a storekeeper or store assistant is desired.
  • A certificate of good conduct may be required.

Knowledge Skills and Abilities:

  • Good communication skills including spoken and written English and Kiswahili, local languages are an added advantage.
  • Additional professional training in procurement and logistics management is preferred.
  • Membership of a recognized professional body would be an added advantage.
  • Knowledge of U.S. Department of State procurement policies and regulations is a plus.
  • Excellent knowledge of Microsoft Office and procurement software.
  • Ability to build effective relationships with all clients, peers, and stakeholders.
  • Culturally astute, respectful, and tolerant
  • Strong organizational and interpersonal skills and ability to work in a team-oriented setting.
  • Ability to use a smart phone and trouble shoot common problems.

Desirable

  • Ability to work with minimal supervision.
  • Willingness to work for 6 days a week (Monday to Saturday).

NB: This position involves a worker coming into close contact with insecticides on a daily basis and will therefore require a medical examination including general body examination and pregnancy tests. Those with certain medical conditions like chest problems, asthmatic etc. or are expectant mothers are advised to apply for alternative roles they qualify for.

NB: These positions will be on a short-term contract, not exceeding   two (2) months, and/or on a need basis.
