The Maa Trust is a non-profit organization based in community-owned conservancies in the Maasai Mara, Kenya. We work to increase the benefits of wildlife and conservation to Maasai families so that they appreciate, and contribute to the protection of, wild animals on their land, and we aim to unite communities by involving them in conservation at a management level.
Job Title: Communications Intern
Location: The Maa Trust Headquarters
Reports To: Integrated Marketing Communication Lead
Duration: Six months (June-November 2025)
Job Purpose:
The Communications Intern will support storytelling, media content creation, and documentation for our community development initiatives. This role is ideal for a recent graduate in Communications, Journalism, Public Relations, or a related field who is eager to grow in a purpose-driven environment.
The intern will contribute by writing and editing stories, capturing photos and videos, and assisting with visual content for donor reports, social media, and internal documentation.
Key roles and responsibilities:
- Support in writing, editing, and proofread compelling human-interest stories and success stories from project activities.
- Take high-quality photographs and short video clips of field activities and beneficiaries.
- Assist in creating engaging social media and donor content.
- Support the design of simple communication materials (flyers, posters, infographics) using tools like Canva or Adobe Suite.
- Maintain and organize media content (photo and video libraries).
- Assist in updating website or blog content as needed.
- Participate in project activities to capture live documentation and stories.
- Ensure consent is obtained for all media subjects as per organizational guidelines.
Qualifications and Skills:
- A recent graduate with a degree or diploma in Communications, Journalism, Media Studies, Public Relations, or related field.
- Strong writing and editing skills with a keen eye for detail and storytelling.
- Basic photography and video recording skills using a phone or camera.
- Familiarity with graphic design tools such as Canva, Adobe Illustrator, or Photoshop is an added advantage.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, PowerPoint) and social media platforms.
- Creative, organized, and able to meet deadlines.
- A team player with a passion for community development and social impact.
