Forum for African Women Educationalists (FAWE) Kenya is a legendary membership organization whose mission is to support girls and women acquire education for development. FAWEK is a member of FAWE network of 34 Chapters in 33 countries in Sub-Saharan Africa. FAWEK aims to ensure that Kenyan girls receive quality education and equal chances in life.

RE- ADVERTISMENT COMMUNICATION AND ADVOCACY VOLUNTEER– ONE POSITION

NOTE: THIS IS UNPAID POSITION

The Communication Volunteer is responsible for developing, implementing, and maintaining communication strategies that enhance the visibility and outreach of FAWE Kenya’s programs and initiatives. The role includes managing media relations, creating content, updating social media platforms, and supporting internal communication efforts to strengthen FAWE Kenya’s messaging and impact.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Content Development:

  • Write, edit, and publish high-quality content for newsletters, brochures, press releases, blogs, and website updates.
  • Develop communication materials for campaigns, events, and programs that align with the NGO’s mission and goals.
  • Assist in the creation of multimedia content, including graphics, videos, and infographics, to support key campaigns and initiatives.
  • Social Media Management:
  • Manage and update FAWE Kenya’s social media platforms, including Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, and
  • Instagram, ensuring consistent messaging and brand voice.
  • Create social media calendars, schedule posts, and engage with followers to grow online presence and interaction.
  • Track social media analytics and recommend strategies to improve engagement and outreach.
  • Media and Public Relations:
  • Develop and maintain relationships with media outlets, journalists, and influencers to increase media
  • coverage of FAWE Kenya’s work.
  • Prepare press kits, media advisories, and press releases to inform media about key activities and achievements.
  • Monitor media coverage, track relevant news, and prepare reports on the organization’s media performance.
  • Internal Communication:
  • Assist in the production of internal communication tools, such as staff newsletters, updates, and briefing documents.
  • Coordinate with various departments to ensure clear and consistent communication across the organization.
  • Event Support and Coordination:
  • Assist with the planning and promotion of events, workshops, and public forums.
  • Manage the communication aspect of events, including invitations, promotional content, media engagement, and post-event reporting.
  • Website Management:
  • Work with web developers to ensure the website is up-to-date, user-friendly, and aligned with branding and messaging guidelines.
  • Manage and regularly update the website with fresh content, event information, and program updates.
  • Reporting and Analysis:
  • Track, analyze, and report on the effectiveness of communication efforts, including social media
  • metrics, media mentions, and website traffic.
  • Provide insights and recommendations for improving communication strategies based on data.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Journalism, Public Relations, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 1 year of experience in communications, preferably in the non-profit sector.
  • Proven experience managing social media accounts and developing engaging content.
  • Strong writing, editing, and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficiency in graphic design software (Adobe Creative Suite) and video editing tools is a plus.
  • Knowledge of website management and SEO principles.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
