Salary and Allowances

  • Basic Salary Scale: Ksh 27,900 – 36,680
  • House Allowance: As applicable
  • Commuter Allowance: Ksh 4,000
  • Leave Allowance: As provided in the Civil Service
  • Annual Leave: 30 working days
  • Medical Cover: As provided by the County Government of Kisumu

(a) Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Develop and implement learning activities that promote cognitive, physical, emotional, and social development of children aged 3–6 years.
  2. Prepare schemes of work, lesson plans, and learning materials.
  3. Conduct assessments and evaluations to monitor learners’ progress.
  4. Integrate play-based learning and creative arts into daily lessons.
  5. Maintain a conducive learning environment through proper classroom arrangement and resource management.
  6. Ensure a safe, clean, and stimulating classroom environment.
  7. Manage classroom behavior and establish positive discipline practices.
  8. Ensure the health, safety, and well-being of children under care.
  9. Identify and report signs of abuse, neglect, or developmental challenges.
  10. Provide basic first aid and maintain incident records.
  11. Maintain accurate records of attendance, performance, and progress.
  12. Prepare and submit regular child development reports to management and parents.
  13. Communicate regularly with parents or guardians.
  14. Organize and participate in parent-teacher meetings and school events.
  15. Engage with the local community to promote early childhood education.
  16. Participate in community programs that enhance children’s learning experience.

(b) Requirements for Appointment

Applicants must:

  1. Be a Kenyan citizen.
  2. Have KCSE mean grade D (Plain) or equivalent.
  3. Hold a Diploma in Early Childhood Development Education.
  4. Have basic training in Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC/CBE).
  5. Be registered with the Teachers Service Commission (TSC).
  6. Be proficient in computer applications.
  7. Meet the requirements of Chapter Six (6) of the Constitution of Kenya (2010).

Note: An upgraded Diploma in Early Childhood Teacher Education (UDETCE) and Special Needs Education will be an added advantage.
