The WFP Kenya Country Office (KCO) implements an Internship Programme designed to deepen understanding of the United Nations by providing practical, hands-on experience within the World Food Programme. The programme offers graduate students an opportunity to gain professional exposure in their respective fields of study and specialization, both within programme areas and across various offices in the country.
The Country Office is now seeking to select Interns for Cohort 3, 2026, for an eight-month programme with opportunities in both Field Offices and the Nairobi Office. For Field Office placements, priority will be given to candidates from the surrounding local communities to enhance impact.
Intern – Supply Chain, Nairobi
The intern will provide technical and operational support to the Supply Chain team in implementing food safety and quality assurance measures across procurement, storage, and distribution processes. They will also be expected to support Food Safety and Quality (FSQ) functions within the different strategic programmes.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist in monitoring food commodities in WFP-managed warehouses and third-party storage facilities to ensure compliance with FSQ standards.
- Support routine inspections and documentation of food handling, storage, and preservation practices.
- Contribute to the implementation of risk-based control measures to minimize food losses and prevent quality incidents.
- Provide support in collating and analyzing FSQ data for reporting and risk management purposes.
- Assist in capacity-building activities for suppliers, milling facilities, and warehouse staff on FSQ best practices.
- Support linkages with government agencies, private sector, and partners to promote awareness of FSQ standards.
- Contribute to program monitoring by reviewing FSQ-related data and providing inputs to improve program design.
- Assist in maintaining accurate records of stock movements and quality checks, drawing on storekeeping practices.

- Gained practical experience in Food Safety and Quality (FSQ) monitoring and reporting within a humanitarian supply chain.
- Developed skills in food safety risk management and quality assurance.
- Strengthened understanding of warehouse operations and commodity management.
- Built professional networks with WFP staff and external partners in the food sector.
Qualifications Required:
- Education: A recent graduate (within the last 6 months) with a Bachelors in Food Science, Food Technology, Agriculture or related disciplines
- Language: Fluency in Oral and written English.
- Computer literacy: Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel).
Duration of Internship: 8 months
