Strathmore University is hiring a Spanish Teaching Fellow in Nairobi. You’ll teach and mentor students, contribute to curriculum development, and conduct impactful research. This role involves administrative duties, community engagement, and supervising academic work.


Department: Social of Humanities and Social Sciences
Reporting to: Academic Director

Basic job summary:

The job holder is responsible for teaching, research, consultancy, administration, supervision, mentoring and tutorial support to enable students maximize their potential.

Duties & Responsibilities:

Teaching and Learning

The key tasks include, but are not limited to:

  • Keep abreast of developments in academic discipline and use this knowledge to shape and review the curriculum content design and delivery
  • Preparation of teaching materials, class methodologies, teaching aids
  • Teaching/ instructing students
  • Carry out and moderate both formative and summative assessments using a variety of methods and deliver appropriate feedback to students to support learning
  • Approve and moderate examination results as part of the school board of examiners

Research

The key tasks include, but are not limited to:

  • Conduct research in relevant areas of expertise, and publish in peer reviewed and reputable journals
  • Apply for grants through writing proposals for own research and scholarly projects
  • Mentoring junior academic staff and promoting a research culture
  • Attending and disseminating research output in local and international conferences (e.g., policy briefs, interviews etc.)

Administration

The key tasks include, but are not limited to:

  • Implement strategic plans through setting goals, defining priorities, and aligning resources (including budgets) through leading academic hubs and committees
  • Sit in academic staff recruitment panels when called upon. Provide guidance in the appointment and promotion process for academic staff
  • Programme development, review, and assessment
  • Represent the University in external clients, partners, and other stakeholder’s engagements
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date students’ records for their courses (course files)
  • Sit in University and School committees when called upon.

Community Engagements

  • Carry out service to society activities.

Academic Qualifications:

Masters’ Degree in area of specialization

Experience:

Minimum of 1-3 years’ experience
